You should definitely try Hades’ Star if: You like space strategy games but feel like PC games have too high continuous time requirements and/or interface complexity. You want to feel like you are always in control of an ever-growing space empire, including when you are not actively playing. You love playing with, chatting, and helping other people. The game is specifically designed around social interactions, generally encouraging cooperation, but there may still be interesting internal politics in Corporations for gaining power. Hades’ Star is probably not for you if: You are looking for an immersive experience that you can play for hours without interruption. There is no concept of “starting a new game”, instead each short session contributes to your overall progress over the next days, weeks and months. The game has been designed primarily for players with pockets of free time, who still want to feel like they are progressing in the long run, without having to start a new game each time they find some time to play. You want a single player game. While Hades’ Star doesn’t require or force interaction with other players, it’s still likely your experience will be affected by other player’s actions. What is the goal of the game? The goal is to expand your empire by colonizing multiple planets, building and upgrading fleets and space stations, and doing missions that help you gain technology and influence. You will upgrade your planets and fleets using natural resources you find and compete for in various stars. There are multiple secondary goals players may want to engage in, such as climbing the leaderboards or completing various trade, mining or combat achievements. Future updates will add further goals and progress the story of the Hades Galaxy. I have been beta testing for a while and can confirm it's interesting to play in short bursts, and becomes involving over time. Can be played solo but then it's a lonely experience. A big plus is that other players can't steal resources, unless that has been changed but hopefully not. Go try it out And the theme of the game is just awesome Nullzone ð® Spam Police ð Jul 12, 2013 3,669 79 48 Male #4 Nullzone, Jul 24, 2017 Thanks, Stronsay! Sounds interesting enough that I'll give it a shot sometime this week. Especially if the part about playing in bursts is correct. As much as I'd like to play something like e.g. EVE Online, I don't have the time anymore to play hours on end. So this here might just be the right thing. Caminagetcha Well-Known Member Nov 8, 2008 208 7 18 #6 Caminagetcha, Jul 25, 2017 It's exactly like mentioned. To make transports short burst is ideal. And the max time you need to stay ingame if you don't have time is around 15min for red stars. All the rest you can do in short bursts and still be good at the game. It's really well tailored for mobile. It's awesome Minamori New Member Jul 30, 2012 3 0 0 #7 Minamori, Jul 25, 2017 Is there any way to start over? After playing for a bit more I have come to a sad conclusion: this is a very pretty and spiffy timer game with all the usual pay to play things you'd expect. The company intro says "play for 15 minute chunks". Which seemed fine, I could do that and maybe come back in an hour or whatever but that's not quite the case. It quite quickly turns into waiting for 2-4 hour timers. One of the big thing about is finding artifacts which you process into resources and tech, of which you have 4 slots to research each one being researched for 2 hours at a time, one at a time. EVEN THE PLANETS HAVE TIMERS FOR MORE TRADES TO SHOW UP! I've currently exhausted all the trade routes on all my planets! On top of that the way to earn money is to micromanage trade, there is no way to do it while out of the app. Of course you spend expensive premium currency to speed everything up. You CAN earn premium currency though through achievements, as an example you get 1 premium currency for mining 2000 fuel for your ships. Each mining ship can mine 50 at a time. The next mining reward is 3 premium currency for 40,000 fuel mined. Yeah. Oh, also, spending premium currency to help accomplish real things costs anywhere from 30-50. So sad, I REALLY wanted to like this game. I'll check in with it occasionally and update. Ijipop Well-Known Member Jul 25, 2012 554 256 63 #14 Ijipop, Jul 25, 2017 For my part I think the game does exactly what it says it does. Slow pace, small burst of play. Very cool game so far. Kefo Member Jun 28, 2013 16 0 1 #15 Kefo, Jul 25, 2017 Currency also shows up on your planets about once a day. If you go into this game though expecting something fast and furious then you didn't read the description. Yes you run out of shipments to do in the early game but it will switch to hydrogen being your limiting factor soon enough unless you start working with others to help each other out. You can also use the currency to speed up timers but you will soon realize that you will be dropping hundreds of dollars to try and speed things up. I suggest trying this game again and unlocking some more sectors and just ignore the currency. Ask any of us vets in game and you will hear the same answer save it for your oh sh*t moments when you realize you ran out of hydro and can't make it out of the red star TZimmerman Active Member Oct 20, 2013 35 0 6 #16 TZimmerman, Jul 25, 2017 I just started yesterday myself and far from a vet but agree 100% with you. I also would like to add. I might not use the proper names but if you start out with 2 transports, 2 mining ships, and 1 battleship.....you can play a good amount starting out. I always run my red star first thing when I get on if I need to.....that way I don't run out of hydro. Then after that I start doing my shipments till I run out of shipments or hydro. The game was made to be played 10-30 min intermittently not constantly around the clock. Wootus Active Member Oct 28, 2011 44 0 6 Artist #17 Wootus, Jul 26, 2017 One of the most prohibitive freemium pricing systems I've seen in a game. They really really want you to spend big on this game. You need a lot of patience to play this without spending tens and tens of dollars. Luckily, I am a patient man. So I can enjoy this game in short bursts of 10-15 minutes every few hours. I would much much rather have just payed 2-5 dollars to unlock a full game. Don't be greedy, devs. Also. The touch arcade article says this is like EVE Online. This is NOTHING like EVE. The only way this is like eve is that it takes place in space. Caminagetcha Well-Known Member Nov 8, 2008 208 7 18 #18 Caminagetcha, Jul 26, 2017 I've played the game since beta and I'm actually what you could call jigh level and I must say you guys: 1-dont play the same game as me; 2- tried it for a little bit and took your conclusions. I understand if you don't like the game but don't come with the monetization excuse. I've never spent a dime in the game, and I'm up there with the rest of the best players. But like I said that is not achieved in days.... it takes time and planing and micromanaging the many aspects of the game. Maybe the people that like easy stuff and getting all the game has in some days don't like it, but I'm sure many will like what I wrote. Give it a try if you like the stuff I said. You need credits and hydro, which you cant really use premium currency to speed up (well, you can buy it for premuim currency, but you cant buy the revenue increase with eg premium equipment and buildings). So I have no problem with the model so far... The only thing I dont like, is having to micro trade. But without that aspect, it might miss 'things to do' so its bareable (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
