Hi TouchArcade community! I'm the dev of Squids and Squids Wild West. Here's my new game's first footage: Its the first beatem up for mobile to have touch controls and asynchronous multiplayer. Compete for the best combo streak and come to rescue your friend when he is KO! The game will release this Spring on iPhone, iPad and Android phones and tablets, and players will be able to play together regardless of the device they are using. I'm interested to know what you think about this first footage and if you're interested about the game. Personally, I loved brawlers on console but I'm completely disappointed by the genre on mobile. That was the starting point of this project: a beatem up with NO VIRTUAL PAD!
I saw your poste on your Facebook page and i share it in our Fb page. Combo Crew remember me old some games i played when i was a kid . I'm impatient to test it !!
Cool! Maybe we'll come here soon to look for beta testers! I was wondering, what's your feeling about the video: Does it seem too slow? Boring? Or exciting, fluid, punchy?
Do you have control over movement? For me herding your enemies and controlling where they are is a big part of beatem ups. The actual look of the game seems to be awesome as does the animation of the different moves.
You control your movement indirectly. You don't control the character but you tell him who to attack. But your position is still a big part of the game as you sometimes want to be attacking a large group of enemies in a part of the screen, or the opposite, avoid a place that's too hot by attacking a lonely enemy on the other side. If you are familiar to Batman games (Arkham), the game system is a bit similar.
Wow, this looks really fun! Can't wait for this one. one question, is it possible to 'swipe mash'? i like to feel like i'm really going at it with games like this.
Well, if you look at our art director and me playing at the same time you would think it's not the same game. I play slow and tactically, and he is just mashing like crazy! So in a way you can button mash, but it's not required. But in the video there are very little enemies, so that's why it looks simple. Sometimes it can get way crazier. And also, you can have your own playstyle as each character have many moves to choose from. Some are shorter than other, which require more frequent inputs. Compared to squids, it's way more arcade!
Saw the video and loved the graphics and the way the room shakes when you punch enemies. What engine did you use for this?
Hi guys, We are looking for beta testers! If anyone is interested, please write to us at combocrew at thegamebakers dotcom. Thanks!!! @deemen: the engine is unity.
This looks good, I just hope the ambition doesn't prevent the use of a fixed dpad and buttons. I just see so many games try to be touch innovative then everyone just wants a dpad and buttons. It's just the most comfortable way. I'll say this, there is a serious need for coop beatemups on ios.
How is this different from other beat em up games aside from controls? If the sales pitch is just different controls then i don't think that will draw people away. Some suggestions to make the game different: 1) tag team - assuming there is more than one character type to play with, it would be great to be able to switch between characters in mid combat, allows different strategies vs. boss or standard mobs 2) statistics - highest dmg, preferred combo, no. of deaths etc., time spent on toon 3) rpg elements - same toon but different 'special move' branch, e.g. focusing on defense or offense or perhaps special move on one toon can combo with skill of another toon - requires point no. 1 to work
