    Hey guys,

I've seen a thread or two around the place here and thought I would tidy it up by compiling it all into one thread that we will be monitoring / adding to, so if you have any questions, please feel free to post them - we'd love to hear your feedback.

For those that don't know, Assault Squadron is a [Chillingo published] top-down AND side-scrolling shoot em' up for iPhone that mixes frantic action packed gameplay with CG cutscenes to bring a unique shmup experience to the AppStore. Below you can see the teaser, which focuses primarily on the CG components of the game, and also the trailer which shows in-game footage and lists several key features. We'll be a Spring release and are working hard make that sooner rather than later!

    Enjoy!

The cinematics look great. May I ask what software you used to make them?

You bet - we use 3DS Max to model & animate, Mental Ray for rendering and the final composite is completed in Shake.

The game looks amazing.. though, I prefer sidescrolling. I think I'll be up for it when it comes out.

Well, it's half side-scrolling ;) In fact, once the game's campaign mode has been finished, you can select to play any stage you like in Arcade Mode, without any of the story or cinematics, so you could just select the side-scrolling levels if you feel the top-down is not for you. That being said, it's our hope that you'll enjoy the top-down stuff just as much!

    Cheers,

Thanks! We coded Assault Squadron from the ground up so it's not using any inefficient middleware engine - it was actually developed on 1st Gen hardware so we've maintained 60FPS even on first Gen iPhones.

Frame rate never seems to be a big priority for many games on the idevice, but we feel it critical to the experience, especially for a top-tier shmup!
