Played a little bit last night, and it was more the latter than the former, but fairly different too. The particles you are shooting don't have much weight. They also bounce off of many surfaces, making for some interesting bank shots, etc.
This is essentially a fantasy "skin" of Miniclip's Fragger. They really should've made a good platformer with that kind of artwork.
