The character moves a tad slow but nothing beats shurikening an evil spider. The biggest difference is that often roguelikes have choppy turn based style movement (move, lull, move - rather than just fluid motion). If you liked 8bit NES Zelda there's a good chance you'll enjoy roguelikes and Rogue Ninja.
