Blizzard's Greg Street talks about maybe considering iOS devices and making games for them. He also talks about the appeal of iOS in Blizzard and the potential of mobile MMO gaming. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-06-22-blizzard-interested-in-ios-devices Do you guys think that Blizzard will eventually make an iOS game?
They probably will, but it will take five years like they do with every other game they make. But then when it happens it will be awesome.
Let's hope iOS gaming is still a huge community when it would be finally released. It very well could be an even bigger business than it is now.
Blizzard is notoriously slow. However, the Freemium/IAP/Subscription-based MMO format seems to work surprisingly well within the iOS marketplace. Blizzard has a much better chance of longterm appstore success then Activision or Take-two.
Blizzard has very strong MacOS dev skills. Possibly the best in the game biz. I can easily imagine a WoW client for iPad. Bobby (Activision's Kotick) has tended to let them go their own way, but given the success of the iOS CoD products, he may even encourage this. In fact I (wrongly) predicted that WoW would be one of the featured titles at the iPad launch, but maybe with iPad 3's increased power and resolution ????
I think people are forgeting its online play. As for as graphics iphone 3GS can handle it. But its the internet providers tmobile,at&t,version, etc. Will they provide good internet service or would you have to depend on wifi?
DiabloII They can do it. Even keeping the 800x600 images. You can have a virtual thumb pad and use the touchscreen as the mouse! The spells just need to be on the side so you tap them with your thumbs.
Considering they still haven't gotten into consoles (they did try a couple times, though), I don't see why they'd go after the mobile market. But if they did, then I agree with SkyMuffin's post. It will take a long time, but the result will be amazing. (Unless they attempt to outsource the development like they did with StarCraft: Ghost.)
IMO, I would love it if they some how integrated the touch screen into the majority of the commands rather than having a virtual joystick and buttons in the corners. That's a bit of a pet peeve for games on the ipad. The pure touchscreen doesn't give a reference point for where your fingers are.
This is a revolution for the no-life community You will now see these guys in parks and everywhere else, their eyes fixed on their screens.....
That would be a challenge to supply technical solution for MMO on iOS. But as they are on the way, it won't be far!!
If Blizzard is gonna make a game for iPad/iPhone i say, screw online gaming.. give us Starcraft and Warcraft! perhaps a new one in the series even..
