I've been searching and having a really hard time. I don't mind spending a few bucks on iap but most of these games are ridiculous. Both Real Racing 3 and Asphalt 8 are fun games at their core, until you quickly crash headon into their massive paywalls, boasting iap that can cost you hundreds of dollars or be relegated to so much grinding it makes Korean mmorpgs look tame by comparison.

I just want to race without all the bullshit. Suggestions?

    Also check out Slingshot Racing

If you like more Trials-esque, learning the track kind of racing, Cubed Rally Racer and Bike Baron

I hear ya, been trying to find something like that myself. I need to play 2K drive a bit more now it's gone through a few updates, but I wasn't all that impressed to begin with. Also I'm keen on almost any racer (arcade, simulation or kart) and found that even Sonic Racing Transformed still *feels* like a freemium game, even though it's relatively expensive. Got duel currencies, etc. Sure I haven't *needed* any of it yet, but I'm wary, and it spoils the experience.

Third shout out for Repulze. Easily one of the best racers on ios.

Jet Car Stunts 2 isn't technically "racing" but it's freemium-free. $5 for all content

    Ridge Racer Slipstream

...and, quite honestly, you can easily get hours and hours of racing out of Asphalt 8 without spending a dime despite it being freemium. I'm one who definitely prefers premium over freemium (or paidmium) and still consider A8 to be the best racer on iOS. I've never hit head on into a paywall and always had new events to play. Much more generous than RR3. But that's just my two cents.

Repulze is also an awesome game.

I never felt the need to buy IAPs in Need for Speed Most Wanted - and it's the best racing game I've played on iOS by a mile.
