Interesting take on lane-based strategy. Turns progress by swapping hero positions, side to side for normal moves, back to front for special moves. Back-line is like the bench, gets a hero out of the fray while simultaneously queueing them for their special move. Despite the simple mechanics, some fairly deep dynamics can occur based on your lineup. The core gameplay fairly polished, with decent models, animation and effects. Outside of combat, the ui and content is a limited, no-frills affair. The biggest disappointment is that the game ends abruptly when any hero falls, and while there are the occasional reserection runes that drop, by the time one hero is down, other heroes are likely not far behind. Fortunately, hero unlocks and upgrades are persistent, so losing isn't the end of the world. Guards is a no frills, tactical grind; not a bad thing depending on your itch. And while the core mechanic is fairly intriguing, the game as a whole is somewhat forgettable. stubbieoz Well-Known Member Jun 23, 2015 1,878 355 83 Male Grey haired gamer NSW Australia #8 stubbieoz, Mar 20, 2017 If you have played Swap Heroes you have played this game. Not saying that's a bad thing. The view is landscape rather than portrait and the graphics are not of the pixelated type. For a couple of bucks there is a lot of bang in this game.
