Devouring Stars aspires to bring a different scope to the RTS genre while offering visual and audio refinement. In Devouring Stars, you play a tribe of godlike entities trapped in Tartarus, a corner of the universe as far beneath hell as heaven is high above the earth. Hunted by 4 other tribes, you have been given the ability to draw your own fate. But to what extent? To defend themselves, those entities have the ability to devour space starfields and create dynamic protective nebulae, or to merge to grow into more advanced units with special abilities (freezing enemies, taking control of them, attacking them from afar, etc.). Depending on the set of entities a game is started with, different strategies may be unfolded.Devouring Stars is mainly inspired by Dan Simmons' Illium but also by games like Homeworld, Eufloria, Starcraft or Faster Than Light.FEATURES- Unique particle system displaying thousands of dynamic stars- Superb action soundtrack with epic piano compositions- 15 advanced entities to unlock by merging the 4 basic ones (earth, air, fire, water) - Generated starfields offering a wide range of beautiful and differently balanced layouts - Thousands of different settings through generated scenarios - Direct attack, escape route, diversion... There are plenty of ways to play the game depending on your strategic choices, entities and enemies - 4 enemy tribes with specific features and behaviors - And some well hidden secrets...PRESS“If you’re stirring up a fictional war for a video game, I’d be far more interested in unknowable celestial entities weaponising the very cosmos, devouring and merging stars to create colossal murdertools.” - Rock, Paper, Shotgun “A minimalist RTS, but one that doesn't lack for depth of strategy.” - IndieGames Information Seller: Genre:Adventure, Strategy Release:Dec 09, 2015 Updated:Nov 30, -0001 Version: Size:0.0 TouchArcade Rating:Unrated User Rating: (7) Your Rating:unrated Compatibility:HD Universal mzinn Well-Known Member Jan 5, 2014 770 0 16 #2 mzinn, Dec 9, 2015 This seems to be pretty cool. But I keep playing. Don't know if that is good or bad yet. Ships combine to make other ships. They all have abilities. The AI ranges from ruthless to a box of rocks with no middle ground. I am barely into the game yet and I can tell you it's deep. I realize how vague that sounds.... Just trust me. This is different. nerial Well-Known Member Feb 24, 2014 82 0 0 London #7 nerial, Dec 10, 2015 Hi! I'm the dev of Devouring Stars. Probably not the best one to tell you how nice this game is, but if you have questions about it, don't hesitate. Lathland posted a Let's Play of the game (Steam version, early on) some time ago. Some spoilers, many trial and errors, but hey : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weQpzsH7zgc @jsrco : this is the sort of feedback I like! Had a look, and feared it would turn out to be (yet another) galcon reskin. Awaiting more impressions! mzinn Well-Known Member Jan 5, 2014 770 0 16 #9 mzinn, Dec 10, 2015 Seems we have a few sitting here waiting for some imps. The posted vids are great but I like to see iOS vids so I can understand how it works on touch screens. And of course get some feedback from iOS players. jsrco Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Oct 15, 2009 2,134 1 38 Coordinator Seattle https://www.Fatthunder.com #10 jsrco, Dec 10, 2015 My only complaint is splitting and combining ships. I am glad you can do it while paused. But could we get a button for the process? Since you can zoom in, it's hard to combine some of them. I have lost several chaos' and then missions because of splits. IOSgamer1980 Well-Known Member Nov 6, 2015 432 2 18 #11 IOSgamer1980, Dec 10, 2015 This looks incredible, but it's so darn unique ... I'm hesitant to spend the money. Could you create a lite version with a full unlock IAP in addition to this upfront premium one? nerial Well-Known Member Feb 24, 2014 82 0 0 London #12 nerial, Dec 10, 2015 You're on iPhone? This was a concern, but the system should be smart enough to work even if youre not exactly on the units. But it's true that with a lot of units it can be unclear. I may update that if it becomes a recurrent issue. The problem with a merge/divide button is that it will quickly clutter everything. Generally touching an unit will make the merge easier. Yep I understand your concern. Making a lite app requires a lot of attention. I can't just put ads everywhere, it wouldn't work with this game. My advice would be to look for reviews and feedbacks (you can check the steam page too, except for the controls and multi everything is in the ios version) . Generally people told me they preferred the ios version (especially the iPad one). I worked the game with mobile as my main aim . IOSgamer1980 Well-Known Member Nov 6, 2015 432 2 18 #13 IOSgamer1980, Dec 10, 2015 Not ads, IAP unlock to play the full game.like you play the tutorial and the first level and then are prompted to "buy" the full game. Personally I hate this model. I would end up just playing the lite version until the unlock IAP prompt, deleting it and buying the regular premium version that's up now, if it gelled well with me. For now, I'll just wait and read others' imps. H4nd0fg0d Well-Known Member Mar 30, 2010 1,907 0 36 #14 H4nd0fg0d, Dec 10, 2015 Last edited: Dec 10, 2015 Thoroughly enjoying. No regrets. Stunning visuals. Still sorting it all out. Seems to have fav potential for me. Love the premium, full game, no ads. As said, freemium would ruin this. Highly recommend. Will leave proper imps after I dig much further into this. H4nd0fg0d Well-Known Member Mar 30, 2010 1,907 0 36 #15 H4nd0fg0d, Dec 10, 2015 I was sold by the YouTube vid. At any rate, you're rolling the dice always on game purchases. senkoujin Well-Known Member Aug 28, 2013 417 0 16 #16 senkoujin, Dec 10, 2015 Last edited: Dec 10, 2015 Video sold me too! This game looks VERY interesting, just watch the video! Keep it as a $4.99 PREMIUM game, no need for a LITE version. Support the dev's hard work; it only costs the same amount of money as a Burger King combo (one-time consumption), and is totally WORTH it! Elegant software for the price of a burger; you can't go wrong here! Take the dive! dukat111 Well-Known Member Mar 23, 2010 514 94 28 #17 dukat111, Dec 10, 2015 Is this optimized for iPad Pro? nerial Well-Known Member Feb 24, 2014 82 0 0 London #18 nerial, Dec 10, 2015 Thanks for the feedback, glad you like the game! The game is featured all over Europe!! Not specifically, but the game uses a special particle renderer that scales very nicely on any screen size. mzinn Well-Known Member Jan 5, 2014 770 0 16 #19 mzinn, Dec 10, 2015 Can't hold off anymore. Buying now. Just looks fantastic. Quoad Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2015 1,094 205 63 #20 Quoad, Dec 10, 2015 Very early impressions: Graphically beautiful Reminds me of a (greatly simplified) version of what must be the only app to've lasted on my phone / iPod for c.6 years, Kooistra's Red Conquest. Also *does* remind me of Galcon - essentially one resource building process / counter (which, OK, can be tweaked by the density of the star field you're in). Though with a mixture of mobile and static targets. Eufloria might be a better analogy, as it does have more strategic depth. So, yeah, first impressions - not THAT alien. Somewhere between Red Conquest and Galcon imo. I haven't yet fallen for it but, tbh, haven't been on it for more than 3 or 4 levels. So far, I've enjoyed the (fantastic) cutscenes more than the gameplay, though tbf the strategic depth may be yet to come. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
