'Road Blaster' (Road Avenger) for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad. In 1985, fresh from the success of its epic laserdisc helicopter title "Cobra Command" acclaimed Japanese arcade games company Data East, poured itself into making what was to be the greatest (and unbeknownst to them at the time) one of the last ever laserdisc games.......ROAD BLASTER!!!! To say the game was ahead of it's time is an understatement! Where other laserdisc titles offered minimal stop-start style gameplay - Road Blasters timeless appeal is its seamless fast-paced action, that placed you behind the wheel in a mad-max style post-apocalyptic driving game, controlling the actions of a vigilante out for revenge after the brutal murder of his bride. Whether cleaning the city streets of murdering thugs, careening around the insides of an office high-rise, narrowly avoiding mowing down sunbathers on the beach, avoiding getting crushed by combine harvesters, or barreling around underground sewers, the result was an edge of your seat roller-coaster ride of a game. Now 25 years on and we’re delighted to be able to announce the original is coming stateside as it was originally envisioned bigger, badder, and better than ever! In the 6 months since the release of our recreation of Cobra Command for iPhone (on sale at 99c) and Karate Champ (99c and coming soon for iPad), we've been beavering away night and day to bring this seminal arcade classic to the iPhone and iPod Touch, AND also deliver to gamers the VERY FIRST laserdisc game for iPad and iPhone4 in HD(-ish). Not ported, but coded from the ground up with improved visuals and new gameplay modes that takes full advantage of the unique features of each device. Road Blaster (for iPhone & iPad) features: Full motion completely remastered video, in 1024x768 and 480x320 aspect ratios. Fully restored and presented in H.264 Vastly superior in-game graphics and effects to match the on-screen action. Including an all new in-car dash complete with working instrumentation, steering wheel, gear change. Optional accelerometer-based tilt steering! Instantaneous seek time, providing a seamless experience where the on-screen action unfolds uninterrupted in real time (unlike other laserdisc games). Unlockable Bonuses. Including Arcade Classic, and expert mode, and hidden easter eggs. World Leaderboards / Gamecenter support Road Blaster is currently in QA being polished and on track for release in the app-store next month, with the following screens provided as an indication of the old original and new in-game play. 1985 Arcade. iPad!!
I will buy this on release-- I loved these games on the Sega CD. I would love it if you released Cobra Command in an iPad version as well... any chance of that happening?
Who can believe they are actually making a serious novel based on the game? Road Blaster Novel Oh and who can forgot the deliciously 80's soundtrack.... *Don't worry ours wont sound (or look) this err grainy
Road Blaster Theme & Lyrics An amazing acoustic tribute by Kuneo Koei and Mary Margaret Park (author of the upcoming Road Blaster Novel ) http://www.theroadavenger.com I know I'm gonna revive When I am...on the road. I've got nowhere to hide When I am...on the road. And there's no use in wondering what Made you feel like parting from me then, girl. How many more tears must I shed So as to melt the frigid wall of time? So I'm gonna break it Have no fear...on the road. You know I'm sure to make it No matter what's...on the road. I know too well it's very hard It's just barking for the silver moon. But I don't care how long it takes, As long as she lights up my way in the gloom Until the very moment When I see you again, I'll keep speeding along the road to the sun, The burning sun! Hear the roars of my car, I'm nearly round the bend, Searching for the love that we did share. There's no one who can stop me now.
I can't wait for this game. please.....please leave the intro music....it just would not be the same with out it!

As if doing an amazing job on Cobra Command wasn't enough (remember I gave it 5/5 on my site,) if you have this as the opening theme to Road Blaster FX, that might earn you a few extra brownie points! Can't wait for it to come out!
Thanks Todd. While you are waiting perhaps you'd like to check out our newest title UFO on Tape. Just came out and seems kinda popular so far http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=68435
Damn this avatar would make a nice icon. Just sayin (wink wink) Usually the last thing we work on before a release
It's Official. iPhone launch first, iPad to come. http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=63914 We hope you enjoy this blast from the past
You won't be disappointed, the game is simply brilliant, headphones recommended, the soundtrack is superb.
Well we're launching iPhone at a ridiculous 99c so we'll have to see what happens and weigh the cost to bring it to iPad before we can come close to deciding the price of the iPad version. Unless you follow RedRibbons theory - and in that case if you wait 6 months to a year anything can happen *If you have any interest in the game at all, then at 99c on the iPhone we've tried to make it as accessible as possible for everyone.
I will buy it, but preferably the iPad version. Except when this will take a year and goes ti a crazy price.
