This is a poll to determine the overall favorite genre of games for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

I will post the genre and example games within that genre and I want to see what TA members would vote. (I apologize in advance if there is already such a thread. I did a search of the forums but found nothing.)

EDIT: It would also be great if you posted why you chose your answer. It would help in determining what makes that category good.

Hey it would be helpful if you could create a poll with several genres for people to choose from (e.g. shooter, adventure, puzzles, etc.).

Lol, sorry to the above posters. It creates the thread before I finished doing the polls. A bit silly, but it's how it works. :D

So you took my advice in revising the earlier poll, and yet STILL managed to get things WRONG?

Seriously...you got some of the genre classifications all wrong.

    For instance:

    Wrong.

Adventure games are games like Myst, Grim Fandango, Snatcher, Indigo Prophecy, Full Throttle, 1112, CSI: Miami, and even things like Soul Trapper and Alternate Endings.

Bounce On and Rolando are examples of action games (specifically the platformer subgenre of action games), not adventure games.

Jeez. Why didn't you just put "platformers"?

Another topic you have to revise.

    You're 0 for 2.

    :p

Just edited the original post to ask for members to explain why they chose, just so others can see why that category is 'better' than the others!

It'd be even more helpful if he got the genres right.

LightBike, for instance, isn't a racing game despite using vehicles. It's more of a vehicular combat game (think Twisted Metal). The object of LightBike isn't to come in first place or have the best time in races of however many laps. It's to take out your opponents.

I've already stated the whole "he got action>platformers and adventure games mixed up" thing.

Will he ever get things right? :p

I picked Puzzle games because Action and Strategy games are better on other systems.

    Oh Spiffy you little devil.

It would be even MORE helpful if Apple got the genres right, then.

I pulled those example games from the app store in the first place.

Everyone knows that Apple is INCAPABLE of making a mistake...right?

I like action and adventure games, but adventure wins for me because most adventure games actually have a story and different levels, while a lot of action games do not.

Hey Kris, add a "platformers" genre, because that's what I would pick! ;)

Yeah, Apple doesn't make mistakes, just unspecified "features" that the rest of us aren't "savvy" enough to understand.

I still remember a time when I saw, and I kid you not, stuff like iFart in the games section.

Anyway, seriously, I'll go with arcade action games. Especially if you're using this as a gauge for game development. Going arcade action is a good bet.

Yes, this is considered a 'market test' for upcoming games. So far we can see what people DON'T like.

We, as a publisher, expect to produce a game once a month and believe it is critical to get feedback from the customer base (members of TourchArcade are a great demographic for that.)

So I appreciate everyones feedback. Thank you.

I would add a platformers part to the poll, but I can't figure out how to edit the poll. Probably can't.
