Let's cut to the chase: I need games. Not just *any* games, though; I need hardcore games. I need games with either amazing multiplayer, deep RPG elements, fantastic replay value, jaw-dropping graphics and quality, excellent controls, or perhaps a combination of the above. Games I Have (that I love): Monkey Island 1+2 SE Beneath A Steel Sky N.O.V.A. Warpgate Zenonia 1 + 2 Warfare Inc. (infinite content and huge community) Plants vs. Zombies Space Invaders: Infinity Gene (huge sh'mup fan and a retro fan as well) Space Miner Final Fantasy 1 + 2 (Nostalgia) Chaos Rings Civilization Revolution (I don't understand how to play...It's so confusing...) Street Fighter IV (Soooooo Gooooood) Sword and Poker 1 + 2 (Amazing little gems) Tilt to Live (some of the best replayability I've ever seen). Yipe5 (severely underrated little indie RPG) Choice of the Dragon + Choice of Broadsides (Brings me back to my childhood) Glider 2 (Aesthetic) Soosiz (Totally Shigeru Miyamoto) ABCA (formerly "LEXIC" - amazing game) Sword of Fargoal Underworlds I'm looking for serious, engrossing games - super time-sinks, either through their massive depth (RPGs) or their multiplayer fun (stuff like Nova or Dinosmash) or their infinite replayability (Street Fighter IV, Tilt to Live). Wrong forums, but let the mods move it. Anyway, The Quest is one I could recommend, the deepest RPG in the store. Monster RPG 2 is also fun.

Soz, I just listed every good game I had without comparing lists xD nethack/inethack are roguelike variations - iNethack being the tougher and more interesting and easier to use. Prisoner 84 is a survival horror game. (I think I'm the only one not to finish it... xD)
Easy answer: Knights of the Phantom Castle. The Hardcore game of the app store. Many levels are very fun to replay. Very challenging, not sure anyone beat it yet (if you do please post in iPad thread of this universal game). It's not deep RPG but there's a real RPG mood. The controls are very good but difficult because you didn't practice them in another game. Some other suggestions: Spirit (great game and great replay value) R Type (any fan of shmup should try it) Warblade (great replay value) Undercroft (Good general turn based RPG with a nice length) Puzzle Quest (Very long, sort of RPG) EDIT: I haven't practice multiplayer myself but tried it a bit and got fascinated by its zero gravity first person shooter implementation: Exo-Planet. EDIT2: I have some more suggestion but I suspect they won't match that well your preferences: Ynth or Beyond Ynth (Difficult great action puzzle game) The Settlers (perhaps you'll enjoy more than Civilization Revolution) Block Breaker Deluxe 2 (High re playability) Return to the Mysterious Island (Challenging Adventure Game)
For a RPG game i'd reconmend Crimson Gem Sage. Be warned though, the menu system does take a short time to work out and it can get frustrating at times, but it takes hours to finish (took me nearly 40hrs) and the story line is epic. For multiplayer fps, Modern Combat 2 is pretty good.
For a massive time sink, grab Battle for Wesnoth. A very fun game with good storylines and...you will never finish.
If you have any interest at ALL in retro arcade games you should snag up Vector Tanks and Vector Tanks Extreme (Extreme is universal btw). Great battlezone remakes.
I second Undercroft, The Quest and Puzzle Quest (yes, it has match-3 battles and yes, it is quite addictive for _this_ hardcore gamer). Beyond that - if you can stomach 16-bit graphics and cumbersome controls to enjoy great gameplay - The Shining Force. And it is not nostalgia speaking - I just finished it for the very first time! Rogue Touch is currently on sale for a buck - it is surprisingly deep and addictive, but has spartan presentation and of course requires tolerance of perma-deaths... Rimelands is worth a look - it is not super-long, but it is quite pretty and has very well-done turn-based combat, IMHO. If you have interest in turn-based strategy, Highborn (humorous TBS Lite) and Battle for Wesnoth (TBS Heavy and with tons and tons of varied content) should be definitely included in your collection. If well-done asynchronous multiplayer is your thing, then Uniwar should be added too.

Hammer of Thor is a heckuva game, But it's time for "Rhymelands" to live up to its name, The storyline's impressive, The dice combat aint oppressive, And with graphics so darn festive, We know the dev.'s obsessive. [That's a GOOD thing.] More content is intended ...but it won't find me contented cause by then, my game is ended (though I'll DL when they send it). <3 Anyone got anything else? Oh, and Phoenix Wright provides a pretty unique twist on the adventure genre. While not as incomparable as rabid fans would have you believe , it is certainly a very interesting and absorbing game, IMHO.
Words, just words, is that you pick? Where is hidden the fanatic Hardcore gamer? Rimelands is a Casual RPG, not really Hardcore. That said it's an excellent pick.
Phoenix Wright has absolutely NONE of those, but since you love Monkey Island and Beneath a Steel Sky, I can tell that you'll love PW too. It may have no replayability, but there are a full 30 hours (if you don't look at walkthroughs) of gameplay in there full of suspense, mystery, drama, and pure concentrated win.
Objection! Haha. I haven't gotten the game yet, but I'm aware of the 4chan meme. I'll check it out. As for the poster who knocked my hardcore creds due to my drunken desire to wax lyrical about Rimelands - pssssssh. The appeal of dice-gaming hits me in that special place. It brings me back to my days as a (bigger) geek. I'll check out PW.
try out Donut games. And Trenches if you liked Warlords inc Drop7 and Shubuya two very quality games Stardunk, or Scramble if you want multiplayer of sorts
