So, as I've explained before, I'm new to the iPhone, and don't really know much of what is "big name" and what is indy. I'd like to be able to check out some of the good indy games. Old or new doesn't matter, just good.

any recommendations? (ps, price isn't a factor here, so i'd rather just know the good games rather than the good value for the money games. ;)

    Thanks

That's a lot of games. You probably would do best by either defining what kinds of games you like a bit more narrowly (there are indie games in every category), or by checking out Apple's own Best of 2009 list, which includes a fair amount of indie games.

Why would it? It's still a a heck of a lot of games -- in fact, I would venture to say it's the majority of games in the App Store.

There's honestly way too many to be able to name every single good one and not leave any out.

Basically, most games that aren't published by gameloft, namco, or konami are indie games.
Not sure whether ngmoco would be considered indie or not.

Didn't realize that people were unclear on what an indie game is. If they were, then, yes, your post was helpful. (By the way, when I read Indy I can only think of Indiana Jones -- that's why I spell it "indie.")

I've always seen it spelled 'indie'.

There are quite a few indie developers on this board. I hate to make a list, because I know I'll forget a lot of people. Maybe they will come in and promote their own game.

    Charmed
    Tap-Fu
    Flickitty
    Doodle Defender, Swingaling, Finger Sling
    Cheese Collect
    9000 BC
    Pentanimals
    Super Juicy

Most of those have free versions and many have been featured.

    We're indie developers too.
Or bedroom coders as they used to be called. :)

To be honest, it's been a bit of a shock seeing how much of a marketing budget the big publishers are throwing at their apps. Hard to compete.

Personally I prefer indie apps to big company apps. The big companies use brand name and shitty ports to get money. Indie devs have to think on their feet and come up with some brilliantly original idea to sell their game.

True, but it is developed completely by them, so it is an indie game. Just under a publisher.

    A few of my favourites:

    PathPix
    Lunarcy
    Defender Chronicles
    iDropDead
    iBlast Moki
    33rd Division
    Jet Car Stunts
    Lion Pride
    Ramp Champ
    Real Racing
    Squareball
    Ynth
    Edge (f*** off Tim)
    I Dig It Expeditions

Anything by Illusion Labs, TouchGrind, Sway, Labyrinth 1 & 2

One of the easiest ways to spot an indie dev (but by no means the best method) is to take a look at which ones have the time to stop by the forums and chat with us.
