That city pic looks amazing. Hopefully it will look about as good on iphone 4 flightunlimited Well-Known Member Nov 2, 2011 633 8 18 #3 flightunlimited, Nov 2, 2011 Unfortunately we have to reduce the polygons by quite a bit. But, it should still look excellent. The city is vast and there are lots of roads and buildings to explore Bawls Active Member Sep 18, 2011 40 0 0 #4 Bawls, Nov 2, 2011 Cant wait i love flying games also the pic looks amazing! gunxsword Well-Known Member Dec 24, 2010 2,556 0 0 Sydney #5 gunxsword, Nov 2, 2011 How bout removing (or just decreasing quality of) shadows? Anyways, what's the game like? Will it be a direct competitor to X-Plane or is it trying to be more arcadey to grab those less-than-hardcore flight sim fans? I really do enjoy flying in high density urban environments so high rise buildings with decent amount of space between them would be nice From the screenshot, the city doesn't seem quite habitable. There are buildings sandwiched between buildings with no access to roads, extremely close proximity between some apartments and overuse of grey and blue. In short, the city looks amazing but unrealistic. Hope some actually 'planning' had gone through in designing the cityscape. Oh and random structures and places for daring tricks would be nice (monorail!) flightunlimited Well-Known Member Nov 2, 2011 633 8 18 #6 flightunlimited, Nov 2, 2011 We're trying a bunch of different techniques. First, we're reducing the number of buildings. As you can see, there are a lot. This will help reduce the polygon count. We'd rather sacrifice buildings and keep the neat special lighting effects that the iphone has to offer. It's not necessarily a direct competitor to X-Plane. It is a simulation and not an arcade game by an stretch, but it's more of a pick up and play flight sim. Our goal was to make the city a fun place to explore. In my opinion, that's what's lacking in most flight sims on the market. It gets boring to fly in open areas but it's pretty exciting to navigate a city with large buildings and roads. There are literally 100+ roads to try to land on which is a sight to see. gunxsword Well-Known Member Dec 24, 2010 2,556 0 0 Sydney #7 gunxsword, Nov 2, 2011 Yes there are a lot of buildings and a lot of them at where they're not supposed to be. AWESOME!!! I don't think I have quite played a flight sim/game that allows me to freely roam in a city!!! (wait, how many cities will there be?) I'd love to randomly take off and explore places! Plz add some train tracks, large underground tunnels (if possible) and what all sorts of things that allows you to fly under, between or around jumpman475 Well-Known Member Aug 31, 2009 1,899 0 0 Student Ithaca, NY #8 jumpman475, Nov 2, 2011 I think funny signs/billboards will do a lot for this game. Make the city more lively and conducive to exploration. Know what I mean? flightunlimited Well-Known Member Nov 2, 2011 633 8 18 #9 flightunlimited, Nov 2, 2011 Here's a zoomed out view of the city. You can be assured that every road is big enough to land on jumpman475 Well-Known Member Aug 31, 2009 1,899 0 0 Student Ithaca, NY #10 jumpman475, Nov 2, 2011 Comparing that to the zoomed in pic, the city seems quite small. Not very "unlimited". Will there be more added on to that city? Or will more cities be added later? flightunlimited Well-Known Member Nov 2, 2011 633 8 18 #11 flightunlimited, Nov 2, 2011 The city is pretty big...it's a prop plane, it doesn't fly too fast. We're also including some mountains to explore. Don't forget that you will take off from an airport (not shown in the map) After the game is released we plan on including a detailed San Francisco city to explore. It will likely be an in app purchase due to the extreme amount of work that goes into these designs. jumpman475 Well-Known Member Aug 31, 2009 1,899 0 0 Student Ithaca, NY #12 jumpman475, Nov 2, 2011 Oh, gotcha. For the San Francisco map, will it include the bridge? That would be sweet to land on. flightunlimited Well-Known Member Nov 2, 2011 633 8 18 #13 flightunlimited, Nov 2, 2011 Bridge, and Alcatraz jumpman475 Well-Known Member Aug 31, 2009 1,899 0 0 Student Ithaca, NY #14 jumpman475, Nov 2, 2011 BOOMSHAKALAKA sorry had to say it gunxsword Well-Known Member Dec 24, 2010 2,556 0 0 Sydney #15 gunxsword, Nov 2, 2011 What the heck? The city looks more like an organized scrapyard/cargo area than an actual city! The outer ring is very boring and occupied with low lying buildings, so I will not even think about flying around the outskirts of the city. The center however, looks pretty fun but the density of the highrise buildings are a bit uncomfortable and hazardous. flightunlimited Well-Known Member Nov 2, 2011 633 8 18 #16 flightunlimited, Nov 2, 2011 Last edited: Nov 2, 2011 Here is another development shot from the street of the city. You will see that the scale is impressive. Imagine landing the plane on the road. This screen shot clearly isn't up to the level of the image in the original post...but...we plan on doing better than this for the iPhone 4 when all is said and done. Right now it's a game of optimization techniques to get the most out of the device. robiow Well-Known Member Nov 25, 2010 335 0 0 #17 robiow, Nov 2, 2011 Want iNIKEL Member Mar 9, 2009 7 0 0 #18 iNIKEL, Nov 2, 2011 Hello. I'm just posting it to show you how large the streets are and the detail in the street signs. The plane is a low polygon model for development purposes.
