I live in England and am a huge football fan, I have seen the videos of the new NFL 2011 and it looks sweet however, I know nothing about american football, is it possible for this game to teach me? Is it possible to enjoy this game without really knowing the rules?
It's not that hard. Call a play. Either run the ball or throw the ball twords the end zone. On defense, prevent that from happening. its like rugby, with pads, set plays, and timeouts
You clearly have no idea about rugby. It's the game they play in heaven! All wankery aside, you really do have no idea what you are talking about. To even compare the two is doing neither game any kind of justice. As much as I don't like to watch NFL (as most Australians don't), I do really enjoy playing it on a console or an iDevice (like most Australians do). But don't EVER say that NFL is like rugby. It's like saying soccer and NFL are the same thing. They're not. And it makes you look a fool to say so (I realise that is my first post, but I've been lurking this forum for YEARS and this statement, and lots of vodka, have made me man up, get a username and say "no". I'm Australian so I haven't been stealing your codes...).
the rules are easy to learn. The hard part is play calling. I don't know much either, so I just randomly select a play (watch the diagram and then look out for the receiver) or I let the in-game "Expert" call the right play for me. However I suppose that if I knew what formation and play is appropriate I would have more fun. I would love to see how the defense sets up and change my offensive play accordingly (or the other way when I'm on defense) Finally, if I was knowledgable about team and players I would select the plays to take advantage of my best players. So, I feel I'm not taking all that I could from a football game..
