"Pawnd is a match 3 game that aims to make things a little bit different, and it succeeds greatly." - AppChronicles.com

"Bejeweled has just been PAWN'D!" - "Lork Gek" App Store Review

"An absolute must buy for fans of chess games, match-3 games, or fans of innovative genre blending games." - Examiner.com

PAWN'D
This addictive game combines the strategic thinking and unique moves of chess with fun, gem-shattering, puzzle-game action. Each piece has simple but unique moves inspired by chess and perfected for match-game action.

Several modes of game play provide unique challenges. Can you break the poisoned piece in a just a few moves? How long can you keep playing while finding only matches of 4 or more? Can you fight off the ivy growing over the board? Tired of deep thought? Try matching as many pieces as you can before time runs out!

Never played chess? No problem! Fun practice games and touch-a-piece hints make it easy to pick up...and even harder to put down.

Simple to play, but tough to master. Are you ready to get Pawn'd?

Gabrien's comments:
In a nutshell: Match-3 game with chess pieces. Free for the first 24 hours (allegedly) and well worth giving a go:

This is clever and well presented. A really outstanding freebie!

Edit: the darn app store is telling me I don't own the game and won't let me leave a review. I really want to reward the developers for this deserving 5 star game.

Played a couple of games in the Practice mode and I'm really liking it so far. This is a nice twist on the "Match-3" formula... and it's free. An easy win for anyone looking for something new to try today.

BUT... this game is begging for a competitive version. Some sort of "Puzzle Quest" type of thing. Please make this happen!

Thanks

(From the developers of the game)

Thanks! We've had tons of fun making and play-testing this one ourselves, it's so cool to get it out in the world and see other people like it too!

We'll keep it free thru the weekend, so tell your friends

We've got a lot of other ideas and unique game modes that these types of pieces allow, but kept version 1 focused on just a few of them. More to come!

I can't wait to see how you follow this up as it is already MOST AMAZING!

Picture the age old (at least by modern gaming standards) Bejeweled like piece swapping game but with one huge twist, each of the unique pieces have their own unique rules of movement based on their real world Chess counterparts (rooks can only move in cross patterns, the bishops diagonally, etc.). On top of this clever mechanic the game offers ups some pretty unique modes of play like Pawn'd in which any move made that doesn't match MORE than 3 will cause you to lose one of your initial 8 lives or Poison, a mode in which there will always be a piece on the board that must be cleared before its count down timer runs out!

5/5

Played through all four modes now and I'm really liking this game. Pick it up!

Also, the challenge mode thing is still something I would love to see. It could be a game where you have to collect all the chess pieces to win. the first to capture a full set would win. If you collect more than the required amount of something it could build up some sort of power. For instance, Five "extra" knights could allow you to give that movement power to another piece, or even some sort of "Lance" power move.

Just some quick thoughts.

But, again... if you like puzzler/match-3 game/chess... Pick it up!
