iPad controllers?

I'm considering treating myself to an Ipad 4 for Xmas & just have a few questions about available games & external controllers.

How is the Sixaxis/XB360 pad support with games & emulators, are there mapping apps to enable controller support in games that don't natively support them..?

I read someone on here was developing an app to work with the sixaxis controller but ur idevice needs to be jailbroken. I really hope a legit controller app gets made for games, similar to the gameloft controller but better. Id play more mac games if i could hookup a controller to it.
