Hey there, I'm the programmer of Optic Combat. Basically the premise of the game is that you choose from one of 8 weapons, and space enemies (2 UFO's, 2 aliens so far) appear and move around in the camera view, and you aim at and shoot them.

The game was made by just me and a friend, who did the gun models and enemies. We both attended college this year, and in our spare time worked on it. If you like the look of it I'll be happy to send you a promo code, would a PM be the best way to do that?

Thank you!

If anyone wants a promo code, PM me or reply to this thread.
We're considering releasing a free version with one gun, and later on in v1.2 the full game may be free with the current coins system, as well as in app purchases for coins, e.g. $1 for 1000 coins. We're also planning on updating the game with more guns, such as a laser, and more enemies.

v1.1 will be submitted to Apple on the 29th, with gameplay & UI tweaks, bug fixes, and an option to mute the game audio.

Here is a gallery of the gun models used in the game. Later on we'll add more, the next one may be a laser.

The free version of Optic Combat is now out. It includes 2 guns, the Revolver and Pistol, while the full version has 8.

It also has a few improvements to the gameplay, UI and performance, which will also be added to the full game in the upcoming v1.1 update. We are hoping to submit that update in 3-4 days, which will be a release date of around the 21st. Monthly updates will follow, with new enemies, guns and gameplay improvements. A few things we are currently exploring:
  • Image recognition - the game may detect various things like your dog or friend, and they'll be incorporated into the game.
  • Automatic reload - this will probably be an in-app purchase, along with a purchase for coins to use for unlocking guns.
  • Cheaper guns - we have reduced the prices significantly, e.g. the machine gun is now 1000 coins, down from 4000.

Let me know if you have any ideas, we'd be happy to hear them.

We have submitted an update for the free version of Optic Combat. Here's the release notes:

UI tweaks and optimisations
More accurate gun stats
New mute audio switch
Improvements to gameplay, enemy spawning and the danger bar
Pausing and exiting the game now saves your score and gives you coins
Performance improvements
Bug fixes

There's a lot more in the upcoming 1.1 update for the full version, including:

* Redesigned gun selection screen - see more guns at once, along with a stats bar to quickly compare them.

* Optional in-app purchases - $1 for 1000 coins, $1 for automatic reload

* Guns are significantly cheaper

* Sound effect when hitting an enemy with an automatic gun

* Option to mute sound effects and gun sounds in settings

* Improvements to gameplay - enemies spawn in a smaller area, tweaks to the danger bar

* Get 100 bonus coins each when you share your score to Facebook or Twitter

* UI tweaks and optimisations, including:

- tutorial panes fade in and out

- highscore hidden by default on the main menu, tap the highscore icon to show it

- more accurate gun stats

- redesigned popovers when resetting the game and buying a gun

- alien and cyborg centred on the main menu for 4" devices

- smoother loading circle on the gun selection screen

* Performance improvements

* Bug fixes, including:

- + icons when an enemy is killed stayed on the screen when multiple enemies were killed at once

- the stat bar for the alien and cyborg could not be viewed on the main menu for 3.5" devices

- the link to the game in the app store when the highscore is shared to Facebook or Twitter was incorrect

* Coming soon: Level based gameplay. Progress through multiple levels, with new enemies and a brand new gun!
