Hi there, TAers. I am the creator of this series of design experiments.

Distractions, available now for free on your local iOS device, is an app that will contain ongoing design prototypes that I hope to create over the next year or so. These are abstract, non-art, non-story, single-scoring games. As a designer, it's important to try new things, yet it is easy to get lost doing countless hours of art and sound and story and tutorial. This app is an attempt to combat personal design entropy.

This, like the apps I tend to create, is not about being easy, it's not about being friendly. These are games that you are going to probably need to play and read the instructions then play again to figure out how the games operate. No tutorials, but there are screens with technical information on each game's rules.

If you don't like these games, I make no apologies, they are just prototypes, only slightly realized, they may or may not be fun. If you do like them, then that is great.

There is a tip-jar in the game that will remove the ads for other games I have worked on, otherwise the game is free.

There will be more prototypes added to Distractions in the coming months.

If you would like, give Distractions a try.

Thank you,

Just wanted to say, they're all quite interesting, but Triangles in particular is a very strong idea I'd like to see developed.

Interesting, I personally dislike Triangles the most! I may develop any of these ideas further, but for now my time is spent working on a completely different idea with fleshed out art and story.

But if I hear strong enough responses to any particular game, maybe I'll do a 2.0 or maybe one day a whole separate game.

Thanks so much for trying!

I like all of them except for 'collision', mostly because I suck at it.

40 secs on 'Gradient', 13 triangles on 'triangles'.

New Prototype Added!

Hey all! I've successfully added a prototype to Distractions! This one is called Focus, and was inspired by my vision going less than perfect from using computers so much.

Anyway, update your Distractions app or download it for the first time!

Cheers you guys!

New prototype coming to Distractions in the next couple weeks!

This one was inspired by the concept of the "signal:noise ratio" thing. You have what looks like an audio equalizer of random shifting values, and you have to find the column that has a rhythm to it.

Anyway, did it this weekend, but I'm now at GDC, so no real work is happening this week! (Just got to watch Eli's GDC talk (pretty good!)) Next week I'll polish it up a little and then submit!

And the app link as usual (FREEEEE, hard to understand difficult high scoring abstract games): https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/distractions/id582108602?mt=8

The new #distractions prototype is up now. It's called Signal and it's about finding a pattern in a random waveform. Check it!

It's an update! So it's free and it's now the 6th prototype on the app. Hopefully a new one coming before June!
