iSquint is more user-friendly for iTunes vids imo. But has the op got a Mac or Windows PC? He needs to tell us.

I have a mac and a pc. I have a DVD with subtitles. It isn't a store bought or anything so no protection. I dont know how to get the subtitles on

Well for the Mac, use an app called Handbrake, as Spindler suggested (it is completely free). This is the best app for DVD ripping, and there is a profile specifically for iPhone/Touch. When you select the DVD, there are video, audio, and subtitles options at the bottom of the window.
