Default SpaceMania available in AppStore

Hi Guys,

check out the 2d side scrolling space shooter Spacemania in the appstore and tell me what you think and if you have ideas for future updates.

Spacemania is a classic arcade space shooter. In the year 3043 you take the role of Colonel John McConedash of the United Nations Spaceforce.

On a standard patrol mission in the outer ranges of our solar system you discover large groups of unknown hostile alien spacecrafts. Equipped with the F-X-205J spacefighter you have to stand your ground and prevent the invaders from reaching planet earth and threatening mankinds existence.

Use the accelerometer and touchscreen to fight your way through more than 9 levels packed with lots of different enemies and their monstrous bosses. Collect useful addons to greatly power up your weapons and defeat the enemy fleet.

have fun

No sound according to the reviews in the App Store so far.

I'm kind of disillusioned with shooters on the iPhone/iPod Touch. I've reviewed 4 of them so far and each one has just been not very fun. As I mentioned to a developer, it looks like the shooter is going to be a difficult one to pull off on this platform.

MattB: I don't think it's that difficult to pull off a decent space shooter. Even if it were a port of an older game, it'd still work well on the iPhone. I'd love to see Truxton (an old Genesis/Megadrive game) ported.

I'm more disillusioned with the "classic" anything. The classic shooter/ platformer/ whatever has been done to death on every single platform now. It would be really nice to see more innovation and originality on the iPhone such as flOw or echochrome on the PSP or most any of these games.

But, if you are going to do a classic shooter [pet peeve] then polish up the game with sound effects at least! [/pet peeve] As a composer and sound designer it really irks me that on this platform, developers are either too lazy or to eager to rush their games out without sound and music. You will immediately get negative reviews from both potential fans and critics alike due to lack of sounds and/or polish. So why not just wait an extra week while you add the sound effects in? And if you don't have access/can't make cool sounds, hire a sound designer; some will work for credit or deferred payment depending on the project, me included.

To me, this mentality of "gotta release the game now but will add the standard stuff like music and sound in an update" is just insulting! Updates are supposed to be about bug fixes and additional bonus levels/features, not finishing your alpha level game.

Sorry for the rant, it's just a major pet peeve of mine after working years in the games industry and now seeing these unfinished games...
