After a long time a new, refreshing gameplay that hooked me up. Combining colors ... awesome....i didn't know i was able to! Nice, minimalistic graphics.
I recommend it to anyone who wants to stretch his brain while having fun!

Hey, C.C,

I am glad you mentioned it, since we are thinking about doing a shapes-based right side of Twinoo problem!
To keep it simple, I am leaning toward merging colors and shapes to avoid multiple versions or even settings..

Depending on feedback, we could push a colorblind update to a nearer future!

How do you play the game? Are players to answer questions on both sides (numerical and colors)? I tried the web game a couple of times and actually got a higher score just focusing on the numerical side of the screen. When I tried to do both sides alternately, I got a much lower score. It appears that I am rewarded for jamming through one side of the field rather than attempting to do both.

Also, I couldn't find any instruction on your site.

Yes. Players are to answer questions on both sides. Focusing just on one side is an option, but you should at least try to keep up with the timer on the other side - for example, you can answer three on one side before answering the other. I think you should give it some more time, especially the right side with colors. I could go on about how the problem of us all being much more mathematically educated than artistically conscious is rooted in our education systems (math is a primary subject, while art is pushed on the side..), but there's one or two TED talks about that already out there which explain that.

Anyway, hopefully the math side doesn't need an in-depth explanation, I will explain the color mixing a bit further, though:

The color circle that you can see on the help page dawnofplay.com/twinoo/help is the "encrypted instruction" - it is the "Color Wheel" by Johannes Itten of the Bauhaus school of crafts and fine arts back from the early 19th century.

The Color Wheel explains the effects of mixing the colors, and it very much sums up how the crayons and watercolors we used in art class would mix.

The most common example I remember from my youth, when I ran out of green, I used blue and yellow one over the other to get a shade or even different shades of green.

Now, you can see that yellow and blue (with red they represent the three primary colors of the subtractive RYB color model) are in the center of the color wheel and the color that is adjacent to both is green.

These are the basics, the interpretation for mixing secondary colors (green, orange and purple) with primary is a bit different and you can also apply it to mixing the primary colors with each other. But I'll leave that as an exercise, if I may.

Yes, we wanted to keep it really simple and minimalistic. Maybe too minimalistic.
I am hoping more people were mixing colors the way I did. Otherwise, I guess we'll get working on an update.

This is a great quick and casual game that was well worth my $0.99. It is fun to play a couple times per day, set higher goals, and see them achieved. One can reach top scores if they are able to stop conciously thinking about each question and enter a rhythm of instant answers. I'd reccomend this to anyone who enjoys light math, puzzles, and simple mental exercises.
