Just realized The Raid: Redemption was made by the ppl who did Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon along with Kung Fu Hustle. Holy shit.
I need to get myself to the theaters somehow this weekend to see it along with THG. Edit: Wow, Wrath of the Titans and Mirror Mirror are both coming out next week? Is Hollywood season starting already?.. Guess I'm going to have to leave The Lorax, JC, and 21 Jump Street to Redbox. Seriously looks like I'll be in the theaters weekly again this summer. This is probably one of the biggest years for movies we've had in quite a while. There are literally 15 films I know I'll be watching for sure already from May through the middle of August. I saw The FP last friday and enjoyed it enough to pre-order the Blu-Ray. I was honestly expecting a movie on par with The Room or Birdemic but the movie is ligitimately funny, the acting is decent even though the dialog is ridiculous and the production values are surprisingly high. The thing that impressed me the most was the music, I was shocked to find out the entire score was original with no music pulled from the actual DDR games. After listening to the score a couple times (free 320kbps download with the Blu-Ray pre-order) it sounds to me like a mix of the trance music you'd find heavily used in DDR and 1980's John Carpenter film scores.
Here's the first ten minutes: Youtube link | Pop Up If you enjoyed that you're going to love this film and if not then it's not your type of movie. |

Hallmates want to go see THG tonight. Ecstatic. Looks like I won't have to wait until I'm back in Houston after all. HYFR.

Just got back from seeing THG. Having never even heard of the series before seeing the first trailer, it's definitely lived up to the hype for me as a standalone film. I'd go as far as saying it's the most memorable film I've seen since The Dark Knight. The depravity and the dystopian premise really hit home. A few of the friends I went with have actually read all of the novels. They said it followed the first book quite closely, which is awesome considering how loosely most films follow their source material.
My one complaint is the romance present in the movie. It's probably due to the mediocre acting for these particular scenes, but it just felt so incredibly tacked-on. I understand it's part of the novel, but according to Wikipedia and my friends, the movie get quite a few details wrong concerning the central romance of the story. Really distracts from the rest of the movie. I'm definitely planning on reading the novels when I find the time this upcoming summer in any case. I'll be surprised if the movie doesn't break $100m this opening weekend and come extremely close to $150m. Go see it. |

It broke $19 million on midnight release so it would be crazy if it didn't break $100 million. It looks good but I prefer reading the source material before watching movies based on another medium so I'll pass on this now until I read the books.

$155m opening weekend for THG. Third best in history, trailing HP7P2 and The Dark Knight. Called that shit. Go see the movie, seriously.
