Very much looking forward to it - I've been curious about the game for a while, but didn't get the Master Set because of the likely difficulty in finding players. Async online multiplayer should fix that.

The link above is broken, but here's the teaser:

It doesn't show the UI, unfortunately.

More info and an interview.

Quote:
“One of our first stops of the day was the Plaid Hat Games booth to speak to George Rothrock and Colby Dauch about the upcoming Summoner Wars app. They did confirm that the app is still coming out in June though no specific date was announced. In our discussions it appeared there were a few small things to still add in, but it appears nearly complete. There were so many little touches and features to highlight. Some of these features we had already confirmed but some are new updates:
1. The app will contain a rulebook and card gallery equivalent to other Playdek releases.
2. It will feature an interactive tutorial written by Colby Dauch.
3. The game has nice graphical touches in the menu screens similar to Nightfall. The gameplay area however is much simpler and does not have possibly distracting backgrounds like Nightfall did.
4. The game will be free to play with one free faction. Players can then purchase additional factions, reinforcements, and mercenaries.
5. The game will feature a deck editor (rules enforced) and you will be able to save several custom decks. You also will always have access to the default out of the box setup. There also is a how to on deck building.
6. There is a movement path displayed as with some units, especially those with trample, the movement path is important.
7. When zoomed out card abilities are not shown but just the basic stats, you can zoom in to read any ability.
8. Colby actually went through and reworded some of the card text to better fit the iOS experience.

Overall the game looked great and will be a great multiplayer experience. We should all be playing Summoner Wars before the month is out.”

Playdek has confirmed on their Facebook page that they’re still aiming for June availability. On their official Web site, they have added more information about the game and some new screenshots.

Quote:
Summoner Wars for iOS is a digital card game with all the tactical elements of a boardgame. The first free-to-play app from Playdek, Summoner Wars for iOS allows players to control the Phoenix Elves faction and battle against AI opponents. Seven additional factions such as the Tundra Orcs, Guild Dwarves and Cave Goblins are available through the game’s in-app store, and online game play access is available after the first purchase is made. Players who have made a purchase can play online games with full asynchronous support. For those who wish to take the game to the next level, a deck-editor allows players to select the cards in their factions, within the confines of the rules. Changing cards can affect game play, making the game infinitely customizable.

Summoner Wars is a popular fantasy card game where players take on the role of a Summoner. Players cast spells and summon warriors to a battlefield and tactically maneuver them in an effort to defeat their opponent’s summoner. Summoner Wars offers many faction decks for players to choose from, like the precise Phoenix Elves, the hordes of Cave Goblins, or the righteous Vanguards. Each faction offers unique play and requires players to adapt to the special strategies available to that faction.

FEATURES

Free to Play
One free faction included
Online play unlocked with first in-app purchase
Four AI opponents
7 new factions to purchase
8 Reinforcement Card packs to purchase
Mercenary Card pack to purchase

Platform: Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.2 or later.
Available: June
The wait may soon be over.

How easy is this for a non-MtG noob to pick up?

I just picked up Magic 2013, and I'm struggling with it a bit. Ascension and Nightfall were no problem. I'm just wondering where this falls....

Thanks!

I think you will find it easier then Magic 2013 but more in depth then Ascension or Nightfall. Think of it as a MtG Lite combined with Chess. Here is a video on how to play the physical version.
