App description: Recommended by TIME Magazine as one of the 25 best apps to own on iPad. First ever 9/10 for a mobile game in the History of iconic EDGE magazine.

". . . As The Universe Ends, The Last Human On Earth Continues To Prolong The Oblivion Of Its Race . . ."

ZiGGURAT is the end of a much longer story -- a story which ends with The Last Human On Earth standing atop a stratosphere-high stone pyramid, wielding a laser rifle against an endless wave of relentless alien freaks.

Where did the alien freaks come from? How did our hero get to the top of this pyramid? We have no time to think about such things: there is only time to shoot.

The situation is hopeless: this is the end. Your only goal is to enjoy taking out as many of those alien freaks as you can.

As the aliens jump up and down in their approach to our hero, their eyeballs grow and shrink. As you hold your finger on the screen to steady your aim, your guns blast grows and shrinks. Hit larger enemy eyeballs with larger bullets to initiate larger explosions and chain reactions. Shoot as much as you want -- youll probably never get enough, and thats okay, because the enemies will literally never stop coming.

With controls that bring together the best of modern shooting nuances and classic gaming challenge, Action Button Entertainment's ZiGGURAT is a new kind of addiction for iOS.

FEATURES

Innovative Precision Mode controls: Precision Mode allows the player to control the game entirely with horizontal sweeps on the bottom edge of the screen, meaning your finger doesnt ever need to cover the on-screen action.

Slingshot Mode controls: For players who prefer slinging and flinging.

Endless . . . with an ending: Watch the world end in the background as you play (though dont get too distracted).

Authentic retro: With sixteen-bit graphics (parallax scrolling!), eight-bit sounds (chiptunes!), and immortal controls and feel, ZiGGURAT is an homage to the games that got us started wanting to make games.

Leaderboards, achievements, Facebook, and Twitter: Everyone in the world or your workplace can and will know how many alien freaks you killed before you died. And don't you want to be at the top of the "Total Shots Fired" worldwide ZiGGURAT leaderboard?

Real-Life Rewards: earn physical goodies for your in-game achievements. Including underwear and socks!

Deep stat-tracking: ZiGGURAT keeps track of your performance and presents your cumulative multi-session scores in a clean single-screen format for efficient bragging.

Amazing music: If the theme music from ZiGGURAT doesnt impress you, you are not invited to my birthday party (it will be playing on loop at my birthday party).

I don't know what is pulling me off this and gridrunner. Well I kind of do and that's why I'm wondering the popularity of it... This looks boring, of course hectic, but so simple that I doubt I'll enjoy it. And gridrunners well, never bought a minter game and I've been meaning to change that, but somehow they seem too bizzare for me... Man I really wanna see why everyone likes it. Does this have a lite, or gridrunner?

No lite version. They are both great. If you want to start with Minter, I'd recommend Gridrunner as your starting point. It is the least weird of his games, only 99 cents and probably his best as well, at least so far.

I say buy both.

This is clearly not a game for everyone, is a niche game for people who played a lot on old consoles.

I am still playing on Game Boy (I have a small collection of consoles and games) and i find this game to be perfect for my soul.
Actually it is a game for the soul, not for the eye or the mind. Every element the game provides (music, graphic, game play, controls) is nothing without the imagination of the gamer.

Thank you Tim Rogers.

i stopped playing for a while because...well, because ios has so many awesome games constantly coming out that you just have to move on at some point. but i came back to it recently, and right away, got my all time high score. it felt great, and i still think about the game from time to time. while it might not be for everyone, it's hard to deny the great design choices throughout the entire experience.

i'd be curious to see lifetime sales figures for this one, especially since it seems to have a bit of staying power...but it was so polarizing among the gaming community.

I'm coming across a weird bug all the time. Sometimes the controls seem to get stuck and I'm unable to aim the gun and the gun keeps charging by itself. It's very frustrating when I'm on a good run and it causes me to die.

No, actually it doesn't look bad at all. It has its style, which is quite consistent.

I said what I said because its relatively shallow gameplay compared to the hype. It has its audience, no problem at all. The devs made this while learning the platform, so I'd take it as an iterative first try. They'll make better games later, presumably, and I'm eagerly waiting.
