I'm asking this question because there are many videos on YouTube of people clearly running this legendary game on iPod Touches and iPhone 4s (and some 3GS!). No matter what version of Psx4all I use (latest or 3.0.0) or what settings I use, I just cannot get it to emulate properly.
- FMVs are messed up (bearable) - Music is sped up really fast (nearly unplayable) - Battles are laggy and unresponsive (frustrating as hell) - Menu sounds are lagged (bearable) Basically, is there anyone here who has ever got it to work at least 90%? Like I said, there are videos of it working near perfectly, with no noticable lag - but no one ever posts their settings! If there is anyone here who's gotten it to work, could you please post your settings/iDevice/what tweaks you are running etc. I do use WinterBoard and stuff like that, maybe it slows it down? Do I have too many Mobile Substrates running? Any help would be much appreciated

I don't think you'll have seen anyone with an iPhone 4S playing it, as far as I'm aware the issue is iOS 5. It's one of those things that's on Zodttd's todo list, but he's currently working on the updated n64iphone GUI.

the general consensus right now is that psx4all is just unplayable for most games, even on the newest hardware. it's the program itself that needs fixes, not anything on your device.

i play final fantasy 7 on my 3gs, am currently doing the huge materia quest at the moment, which shows how far in the game i've played.
Whatever you do, do not play this game on the latest version of psx4all as it is barely playable, same goes for most games if you ask me. Download the 3.0 version of the emulator which for me runs almost perfect, the sound from time to time does speed up a bit, but its better than version 4 which lags like a bitch. I play with smooth scrolling and landscape mode and ignore the aspect ratio so I get a full screen. I also play this game with the icontrolpad and with the blutrol jailbreak app, works a treat for me. Another thing I do is have all skins deleted so I can see the full screen with no onscreen controls visible |

Thanks for the replies, guys.
- Yeah, I know that psx4all is far from 100% at the moment. It sucks that it's the only PSone emulator for iDevices. My PSP is broken (I've had it for years, so it's just worn out) so I'm stuck without a portable PSone I own a PSone, but it's nice to have those games just on your phone.- dappa, thanks for the reply. What is your iOS firmware and what region ISO are you using? I use my FFVII PAL ISOs and I am on iOS5. Thank you

I'm on the original ios version 5.0 and the version i'm using is the pal version of ff7 which i ripped from my ff7 cds.
At the moment gonna do some chocobo breeding then do the underwater reactor section. For you guys using the older iphone 3g this game is playable using version 3 aswell, as long as you turn the sound off, I got upto the mithril caves in the game before I upgraded to the 3gs and continued the adventure from there. How does one find and install an older version of psx4all?
Or maybe it's a moot point since I want to run it on my iPad2, but according to Cydia, the app is not even compatible with any iPad newer than 1st-generation! It grates me to no end that this seems like a simple, quick fix, yet no fix is in sight. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'm a retro console gamer and always dream to have those familiar titles on my phone. The few reason I'm still got my iPhone (and iPad) jailbroken is Emulation, LockInfo and SB settings. Unfortunately they never did a great job for PSX and N64, but it's not a big deal to me.
On the other hand, android devices did a great job emulating most of the retro console (including PSX and N64) without hacking because the emulator is in android's store. if not, its alot easier to install without heavily hacking As I mention earlier, I got only a few reasons to jailbreak my idevices and Android can ahndle all of them. I'm currently considering on getting one of those Samsung Galaxy series to replace my iPhone or iPad or just for emulation. Google it your self to see how well psx and N64 did on android, it will blow you away. psx4all on ios is long dead, it's never been update for years or it's being hold on Zodttd's todo list forever is the same. I can't remember where I got this but I heard that the coders said ios device is a pain to emulate psx (correct me if I'm wrong). Last edited by softypolimer; 05-26-2012 at 08:28 PM.. |

@ dappa
Cheers, mate I'll try to give it another go.@ Mojo 2000 Google "psx4all 3.0.0" and you'll come across some repos that have the older version - you'll have to add the repo to Cydia. I won't post the one I use here as I'm not too sure if that's ok, but I found it pretty easily ![]() @softypolimer I know, I know - I was looking on the Google Play store on my Dads' Samsung Galaxy, and it had Spectral Souls! SPECTRAL SOULS (big fan of obscure Japanese RPGs)! I'm truly torn between iPhone and Android for emulation, but I love Apples' "look" and I'm a sucker for the theming scene. I'm thinking of getting a Vita/another PSP for emulation. Hmmm....it's a tricky choice. I'll certainly have a look at some vids though ![]() Concerning Zodttd - I am not expecting him to update his emulators anymore full stop to be honest. Last I heard, he left the scene with his tail between his legs because he was charging for Snes9x on Cydia and got into trouble over it (because Snes9x is free code or something, I remember the PSP version warning you you'd been duped if you'd bought it). Don't take any of that at full value, but I remember reading that the Snes9x people weren't happy. I may be wrong. *sigh* It's a shame. It's frustrating that the newer iDevices are obviously capable of PSone/N64 emulation, but it's difficult to code. The PSP couldn't really handle N64 emulation (at least when I last tried using it). |
