It does look like a replica of the original Fruit Ninja game. That might be why you got that statement from.

Perhaps, but the games are really different,
Fruit Ninja is a very mix about frenetic/cartoon game, Slash Ninja is
a very ninja spirit game; try it.
Unfortunately we did not have the success of Fruit Ninja
