Love the pix of the cat!
The game is fun and a has some interesting game mechanics. You drop the anchor, which swings back and forth. You hold the screen to let the anchor down further, and lift the finger to stop the anchor from moving. You need to collect coins/treasure on your way to the fish, using as few knots (stoppage points) as possible. The stars relate to number of knots used, amount of treasure obtained and completed time. The complexity goes up as you progress (and I'm still only on the first set of levels). You have whirlpools, eels to avoid (timing is needed), and obstructions to get through. There is one additional game mode (so far, looks like there could be others) (under extras) - you need to reach the fish in just one move, through eels or other objects... definitely not as easy as it sounds. ;-) Fun music, cute graphics, and unique gameplay. Thanks for the code - fun game! Last edited by secondtime; 07-01-2012 at 01:39 PM.. |

I have played through half the levels in this game and I can say with certainty that I love it! Captain Cat combines very attractive graphics with fun and innovative gameplay. The action is a combination of timing, quick thinking and patience. The game's scoring is pretty standard for IOS using the 3 star system where stars are allocated based on using less then a set number of knots (really rope segments or turns), collecting all the coins, and finishing within a set time. It can be quite challenging getting 3 stars after the early levels. The level design is excellent with a nice progression in adding gameplay elements. The controls are simple and responsive.
Overall the game is very polished. I really like the scat style theme music as well as the excellent water sounds. I really appreciate the small touches like the ability to rename Captain Cat's boat. The Game Center support is excellent, but please add direct access to Game Center achievements and leader boards from within the app. I feel very fortunate to have gotten a promo code for this game because in all likelihood I would not have bought it. However, if I did I would have been very pleased with my purchase. There are no ads and no IAP and with plenty of levels this is an excellent buy at 2 dollars. This is a cat game that Jared should definitely feature on the TA podcast. In summary, Captain Cat is one of those special games! A correction: the game has the Game Center access under the "Extras" menu item along with some other cool game modes which are unlocked as you play. Last edited by slewis7; 07-02-2012 at 06:46 AM.. Is perhaps the "Guided by the stars" Game Center achievement broken? If not, what is the exact requirement for this one? I have 3 stars on the entire first set of levels, so it seems like I should have this one.

I am also missing the achievement for reading all the scrolls. I had missed one scroll and later went back to the level that had it and read it, but the acheivement is still not registered. Is this a bug?
I have finished all the regular levels (more please!) and I am missing 4 stars. I also have to work on the perfect mode levels which are really tough. It is a shame no one else here is playing and commenting on this gem. |

Thanks slwis7 for your feedback, it is very useful for us and we are glad you are enjoying the game. Hopefully some more of you are playing with your promocodes too - what do you think?!
The 'Guided by the Stars' achievement isn't showing up at the moment, it is a bug and we are working to fix it. We will look into the bug with the scrolls as well - thanks for letting us know about it. We are working on the next episode with a new fish and looking at more extra game modes, as well as looking at the difficulty of Perfect Mode - it is possible though

Well, now I have all 60 stars but I am not quite at the top of the leader board. I think I will hold off trying for any more perfect levels (I have 7) and I really am looking forward to that update with more fantastic levels. Thanks for listening to feedback!

Cool game Timex, good job!
It's hard to find when doing a search on Goggle though...maybe my google-fu is weak though

hmm... saw this in the N&N section in iTunes (congrats!)... definitely looks like an interesting game.
those of you who have played through quite a bit of it... would you say that this would be good for a 13 year old? She loves puzzle games... so it doesn't have to be too easy... but does the difficulty ramp up to pretty friggin' challenging, or... not... ? |

It never gets too difficult and certainly passing a levels without getting all 3 stars usually only takes a few attempts. There is a "perfect" game mode that can be really challenging, but it is not the main game mode. Be aware that there are timing elements to this game that are at least as important as the puzzle aspects.
