Thing is, in almost all other web-polls it is encouraged to bring outside voters in. Often a poll is just a way to get new people to a website. I always get asked by "friends" to vote on a cutest-baby, best-project, coolest-idea etc. poll on some random website, and I'm not even on Twitter or Facebook. So, it doesn't seem that out of line that devs who are proud of their game think this poll is like any other internet poll where outside votes are welcome.

It would be much better if votes could be restricted to people with at least 10 posts. Alternatively, that could be done by hand, as it is now. No need for piling on and act as if devs who promote TA by mentioning the poll are evil or something like that.

But i've seen it on so many other forums, over on Retro Gamer we get someone who just posts once, advertises their game and doesnt ever post again, so these get deleted.

How many of those 0 posters are seriously going to stay here and contribute ? Its like when you get someone with their first post with 'hey i just found this game amongst the 10000's in the app store and wanted to share it with you' and dont post again (obviously just spam).

Problem is if its restricted to just 10 posts then you'll get fake voters with 10 stupid posts just so they can vote.

Theyre not promoting TA, theyre simply getting their fans to spam-vote any poll they find with their game in it. Theyre not evil but theyre cheats. Thank god not every single dev does this as its just one or two.

It makes the poll worthless with all these fake votes. You can think if you want that these voters will stay around and contribute to the site but i'm certain you'll be wrong. What next ? Dont delete the 1 poster who mentions Louis Vuitton handbags in a spam link in his post as we want more people here ?

The votes are simply fake, despite rules stating TA forum members (and not 28 newbies) devs still cant read.

The poll 'used' to be good when it was full of legit votes, its often a good way to perhaps try a game you didnt want to previously. But when its full of 0 post fanboys its just a waste.

Top marks though for showing the votes as previously this wasnt the case, at least you can see what dev is trying to cheat and what one isnt.

Smile Defense for the cheaters

Hi everyone,

I am actually one of the "newbies" that voted for the cheaters so this is my first official post here...

As the other guys from roll7 already said this is our first game on TA and most importantly first game on the AppStore so we are actual "newbies".

We did not know what the rules where and of course we were excited that our game got nominated by one of YOU for App of the Week. At least from my point of view the thing you do is inform the community that you 've built around the game about this, not random people that have no idea and just do what we asked them to do.

Some of them took the time registered here and gave us a vote. If those votes are fake for you sorry but this is not how I see it. They were actual fans that have been playing and enjoy our game.

By the time you informed us about the rules we removed the relevant post and informed the people that they should not vote in the poll which is obvious if you check what time the last vote by a "newbie" got submitted.

I do NOT think it is fair to call us cheaters and describe what we did as if it was something outrageous. Frost played the game liked it and nominated it we did not push him to do it, we were just excited like any dev would have been, when people appreciate the work they've done.

So instead of calling us names and making the situation bigger than it actually is, just get 15 minutes of your life download the free version of the game Get Them To The Exit and you will realize that we are not who you claim we are and that our little game is definitely worth its votes because it is a good one.

Start enjoying games more and stop winging about something so unimportant.

Good luck everyone...

Thanks a lot.

The rules weren't posted this week, so no one cheated this time. I would guess at least some of the previous times it happened, the developer just saw the nomination post in their thread and asked people to vote without even reading the rules, so that's only sort of cheating, ignorance and not attempted deception. So I do think people are a little bit hard on perpetrators at times, but I also understand the desire to protect the integrity of the poll, which has become a community event and tradition.

It's actually about to be the poll's 1 year anniversary I believe. We should have special poll for the best GOTW from the past year. People could nominate from the list of winners, and then vote on the top nominees

Regardless of whether the rules were posted or not, I still think it wouldn't be right if Gets to the Exit wins. A lot of devs use this "distinction" in their app descriptions - ie., "Touch Arcade Forum Game of the Week" - as a way to lend their app some credence. With 28 new accounts, that's way overboard in stuffing the ballot.

Anyway, looks like Summoner Wars is tied with it now. Hope it wins (even though I haven't played it).

Didn't think they would but all the talk about the "rules" not being posted made me question whether they would. Missed The Frost's earlier post that they would be removed.

Wow..a lot of votes for both Summoner Wars and Outwitters! Last week is a good week for turn base strategy games.

Dont worry, this is a TOUCH ARCADE Game of the Week, and that means TOUCH ARCADE users, and I know who is legit is who isn't, and the ones I don't know I search them and write them down on a WordPad document. And I will add at the end of the thread the winner, and maybe even remove the poll somehow and add it to the other GOTW thread. Dont worry everything will be okay. Just a lot more work

EDIT: And stop voting for Gets to the Exit, those votes wont matter at the end, they will be removed

EDIT 2: TheEndApp and Left2Die is having a good fight for the 3rd place there... Outwitters second and Summoner Wars first, for now...
