![]() As you can see, this app got pulled almost instantly from the AppStore. Rhetorical question: How long could have survived such a trojan in an uncontrolled environment? No further comments needed, I guess... Last edited by Carlos; 07-09-2012 at 04:17 PM.. |

On the other hand, let's face the truth: nobody can steal software without having a JB device... |

And why are you so against JBing? It's totally a matter of preference, some prefer a more stable, open system while others prefer apple's secure iOS. Just recognize that fact and accept it

Really? Sure seemed like it. Your "friend" just happened to receive an "unreliable iPhone, with weirdly behaving apps, and shorter battery time" after jailbreaking and installing one Cydia app? FUD.

And when has a trojan ever appeared in Cydia? Change your SSH password.Last edited by Badtz; 07-10-2012 at 01:50 AM.. |

I'd refine this a bit. If you are an iOS expert, who can reverse-engineer apps and check them for security issues, feel free to deploy anything you'd like to your iOS device. However, if you do not belong to this category, I'd recommend you rely on Apple - may be boring but definitely safe.
No offense, just asking: how many of you who try to convince others about the advantage of JB and security on Cydia have ever put together at least a minimalistic "Hello World" app for iOS? Anyway, everybody is free to decide whether to JB or not. But I still think JB is risky - you may get more freedom, some great services and apps not available on the official platform, however the cost is high, since you are not protected anymore by Apple. Just my 2 cents. Last edited by Carlos; 07-10-2012 at 04:44 PM.. |

The reason your friend has a useless, unreliable, slow iPhone 3GS is because he pirated, he used cracked software.
Any software in the "official" cydia repos such as in Thebigboss.org, modmyi and Zodttd is tested prior to being released and the software's code is checked. Next time, tell your friend not to be a pirate and he will have a useful, fun, customized iPhone 3GS that stands out in the crowd. To remove the jailbreak just hit restore in iTunes and set it up as new. The question isn't why not to jailbreak, it's do I need to jailbreak. If you're going to pirate apps and crap then you don't need to jailbreak. If you know what you are doing and know what Jailbreaking really is (not pirating apps) then you'll enjoy your iDevice. I really get mad when people think Jailbreaking is bad just because they pirated apps and crap and then they find out how much malware all the tweaks from insanelyi and xsellize bring to your iDevice. So in summary, DON'T BE A PIRATE! |

And FYI, every single version of iOS 4 is more secure jailbroken than stock because the exploit used can be used by not so nice hackers so the exploit is patched by the dev teams once the device is done with the jailbreak process.
