Lightbulb Do you guys think 3D games are better than the traditional one?

Since there have been more and more 3D games launch on the iTunes recent years. Do you guys prefer to play 3D games rather than the traditional one?

2D retro is no longer hip enough for me. I only play 1D games now.

I prefer both equally if they're well done.

Traditional? I have a feeling that you are actually looking for opinions about the feel/gameplay of the games as well. I am by no means totally against pixel art..after all it does have its own nostalgic charm but I have always thought that developers who describe their games as 'Retro' and 'Old School' are mostly just finding excuses for uninspired, non-innovative gameplay with shoddy graphics(really bad pixel art). Of course there are games like Mage Gauntlet that successfully marries pixel art with really innovative gameplay mechanics.

Why emulate passe 'traditional' games that are crippled by the severe technological limitations of their time? It has been over a decade since 6th generation consoles have appeared. What would you consider traditional at this point in time when the catalogue of 3d games with innovative/complex gameplay is larger than the number of 2d games with 'old school' gameplay?

Ultimately, it doesn't matter if it is a 2d or 3d game as long as the assets are well done but when it comes to gameplay... I will expect something really innovative instead of 'traditional'/old school gameplay( damn you random encounters!)...after all how far can nostalgia bring a game?

Damn, that's bad news for a friend of mine. He's working on a 4D game.
