Recently my computer melted into a heap of slag and I had to buy a new one. Whoo. Unfortunately, new computer means a reset iTunes and I'm scared to death to plug in my old 3rd Gen iPod Touch. It's completely full of apps/music/other junk and I don't want it reset under any circumstances.
I was able to survive without iTunes for the last few months but I JUST got a brand new iPod and I'd really like to register this new iPod with my new laptop AND somehow get everything on my old iPod into the new one. Are there any methods for accomplishing this? I'm about to jailbreak the new iPod and install an SSH client; my old one is also SSH enabled, though i never used it. Would it be possible to use SSH to just copy everything from the old iPod to the new? Thanks for reading this wall of text; hopefully there's a way to save all my old stuff! |

You can use AppBackup (Cydia package) to backup all of your app data/game saves. You do have to connect it to your computer but iFunbox can get the files out for you. Then on a new device you can just copy those files back over and use AppBackup's restore function.
Also, although it's a new iTunes install, it will still ask you if you want to sync your device to a new library before you do so. So you can just say no. Most of your apps can be redownloaded from the "Purchased" section in the iTunes store. However, occasionally some apps that you've purchased are no longer there if they've been taken off. But I think if you sync your device to iTunes it should copy over what's on your device. I am not 100% sure about that. There's a guide on copying the music over here, but I've never used it myself: http://lifehacker.com/5869827/how-to...puter-for-free |

Since your ipod is jailbroken it won't be difficult to do that.
First of all, you need to transfer the ipod contents to your computer, then you transfer them from your computer to another ipod.iTunes is not necessory but you might have to install another 3-rd party program to help you. In specific operation, you can follow this instructions: Step 1. How to transfer or sync iPod contents from iPod to PC Stpe 2: How to add files from PC to iPod without iTunes Hope that would help to solve your problem

I'm downloading AppBackup right now; plan to use iExplorer/Funbox to snatch the backups and send them to the new iPod. Thanks for the tips!

Transfer Purchases will get them into your iTunes library. I don't think just a restore will put them on your new ipod since the support article says the App itself is not restored. After you restore from a backup, sync and check the Apps as well as music to sycn.
Try to refer these tutorials about iPod music to Computer: How to transfer and backup music/songs from iPod to PC How to transfer and get music/songs from iPod to Mac Last edited by kunmerpark; 08-29-2012 at 10:36 AM.. |
