Not really an advantage, no. You do score more in later levels because larger blocks are worth more (per grid space they occupy), and magnet blocks give significant bonuses too.

You can play faster on earlier levels because it's harder to die, and keeping the stack real low doesn't have any scoring advantage. So being sloppy/fast is fine on early levels.

I still usually start from 6 because I'm impatient, but my wife (who is awesome at Slydris) starts at 1, and she regularly gets to level 20+ (infinite mode) and scores over a million.
