Unlikely such an idea would make it in to this version of the game (would be messy, bolting it on as an after-thought), but I would certainly consider it for a similar game. Especially if the whole process is seamless and done in-app (edit + upload + browse + download levels - all in-app). The logo, I think there is a slight improvement to it's resolution (would need to check), but all the art is bitmaps not vector, so some of it was tricky to upscale (though, for a lot of it, I already had higher-resolution art). The process I used to create the art, was a bit involved!

I've been sat on the fence about getting this one, mainly because I can't figure out what's going on in the trailer video. The levels look very chaotic, but they change so fast in the video that I can't tell what you actually have to do.

Collect gems, keys, etc, avoid and shoot baddies, etc. The usual platforming stuff. It is chaotic, but it is a lot of fun. Even amidst the chaos, I find myself stopping to survey the play field and then proceed. It works.

Yes, it is a bit chaotic, and to be honest, it probably puts a lot of people off. I think games should, in an ideal world, gently warm-up the player, and introduce themes slowly, rather than just drop them in at the deep-end. Anyhow, I'll try and explain. The primary objective on each level, is to collect all the yellow keys, once you've done that, one of the doors on the level will open, and you exit the level through it. Then you'll get a results screen, totting up scores etc. Then, on to the next level. Collect fruit, for extra eggs (ammunition). Collect potions, to power-up your duck. Collect all 7 coloured diamonds, to get a bonus (doubles each time you get it). Avoid spikes! Avoid skulls. Collect 10 flowers for an extra life. Collect a mushroom, to swap flowers and skulls around. Collect umbrellas, to make goodies fall from the sky. Pull levers to open secret walls and unlock traps. Throw eggs at baddies. Some potions let you get special eggs. Lots more. Hope that's not too confusing! |

I love these kind of games and this game is pretty fun.
Here is some gameplay I recorded. Youtube link | Pop Up Plan to do a full playthrough soon. |

Hehe, may take a while! It gets harder, the more you progress in to the game. I'd love to hear you get on though, and please let me know if anything doesn't make sense (like the pick-ups you collect etc).

I played a bit of Qwak for the iPhone after it became free and thought it was quite nice however it is way too cluttered and chaotic for the iPhone. I would've liked to give it a go on the iPad however with the current price of $4 it seems a bit overpriced for an old Amiga game. I'm pretty sure this price point is also bad for sales in general. These of course are just my thoughts and I might be a cheap bastard for thinking this but this is just me looking at the AppStore and the prices for games on it.

After playing with Qwak on the iPhone a little bit, I have to say that it is a charming little platformer. My only gripes with it are (1) that you have to pass 10 levels before you get to a world "checkpoint" and replaying can get frustrating as it takes quite a bit of time to pass 10 levels and (2) I understand that afte about 20 seconds mines start dropping (unless you collect the proper bottle) and I believe it was meant to feel more speedy and chaotic but as there is no timer ticking down it can also mean more frustration and removes a lot of my incentive to explore a level which is a shame. Another final small gripe is that it is sometime hard to see where you start, looking at old YouTube videos of the Amiga version, Qwak came up in a balloon which made him a lot easier to spot.
