Looking for a tactical RPG that's very close to Fire Emblem

Hi Guys, long time lurker first time poster. I was wondering if there are any games out there that closely resemble the Fire Emblem series in gameplay. I am looking for something that's similar but most importantly it would feature:

-Unique Characters (no nameless "cavalry" unit).
-Some ability to level these characters up and maybe promote them,
-Ability to recruit new units over the course of the campaign.
-Preferably set in a swords and magic type era,rather than futuristic.

Any help would be appreciated as I am going out of town and wanted to find something to try when I found a spare minute.
