Everyone plays different video files of different sizes and encodings? >.>
MKV/video containers contain a myriad of different video encodings and such. The internal decoders of these players all differ in their abilities to render and display these videos. if AVplayer has been working fine for your videos, that's all good and well, no need for you to go looking for alternatives. Forgive my generalization...but I am certainly not going to go into the trouble of hunting down and posting all the different encodings/subtitle formats that ran smoothly/loaded properly or what not here. This is my experience as someone who has a large assorted collection of video files and tried both AVplayer and the other video players listed above. Why don't you give ...say..gplayer lite a go? =p Last edited by violentv; 10-17-2011 at 06:10 AM.. |

OK, Gplayer Lite seems pretty neat so far. Will have to test it with subtitles, etc. Paying version removes the blue bar at the top, though, right? I assume that that's were advertisements are supposed to go, though I haven't seen any.

Ran into another snag:
So, how do I make subtitles work on Gplayer? I have an Italian film to which I separately downloaded English subtitles in .srt format. On PC they work if the file is in the same folder as the movie file. With Gplayer, I can't transfer a whole folder, but have to transfer .avi and .srt separately and subtitles don't work. What am I doing wrong? Or does it only work in the full version of Gplayer (I am still testing Lite)? TIA. |

I watch A LOT of avi's on my iPad 2 and I've tried all the Video Player apps out there.
Azul is the best by FAR. Just buy Azul - job done! |

I think most people have their movie files in 720p .mkv format. |

Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but just wondering what people considered to be the best media player these days?
I was using AcePlayer but it's not been updated for the iPhone 5 screen and it could never handle 720p MKV files very well... |
