Yes, the controls are fully customisable from the options menu.

Yes, that's right. Left/right/jump/shoot are the main controls so it isn't a runner in that sense. More a 2d run&gun. You can go left if you like but the aim is to get from the back of the train (left) to the front of the train (right).
