Downloaded this when it was released but only just got round to playing it today properly...wow!

This 'game' really needs to become the spiritual successor to Populous... it's perfect for it.

Congrats to the dev

What happened to Topia?

Hey guys, just wondering if I'm missing something here. I'm referring to the (my) official "game with the most potential ever" - Topia: World Builder. Last I heard there was an update coming soon.

But I haven't heard anything in a while now. The developer has been pretty silent. (If you're out there, could we get a status update?).

I checked the "official" blog (http://glenncorpes.blogspot.com/), but the most recent post is from October 23rd.

Been following on twitter too, but no updates there either.

Does anyone have information on the progress of this game? From what the dev was saying, the new update is really headed in the right direction. We were finally going to get proper world saving implemented. Until then, I am not playing the game (cause I can't stand losing my progress every time).

Anything? Glenn, you out there?

Currently enjoying: Fieldrunners 2, Pilot's Path, True Skate, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, Dream of Pixels, ARC Squadron, Rage of the Gladiator, Dead Trigger, Junk Jack, Minecraft PE, and Bike Baron.

The instant saving and loading is working. I'm now in the middle of a fairly major rewrite to make the loading and saving less confusing. The previous 'timeline' based saving forced us into doing things in a slightly stupid way.

Trees and animals are also saved correctly, i'm going to try to get a tree painting tool in before I submit but time might be against us for that.

There are a few other new features, for example a tool to produce the terraced landscape below but that was more of a joke to wind up the people i'm sharing office space with at the moment who are working on this:

GODUS sounds exciting, sure....
But I'd rather see TOPIA grow. TOPIA vs GODUS TO THE DEATH!!

Hey Glenn,

Thanks so much for the update! I'm glad to know you guys are still alive and working on stuff.

It's probably too early to ask, but could we get a timeframe maybe? December, or are we looking into January?

By the way: That "terraced landscape tool" is absolutely EPIC looking! Totally would love to see that implemented.

Also, personally (maybe this is just me), I don't care what else comes in this update. I just really, REALLY want to see proper saving implemented. I've been holding off playing the game because of this. I'm to OCD to rebuild a new world every time. Further updates with more stuff would be great, but the saving this is what I'm most interested in now. Not sure how everyone else feels about that though...

Anyway, looking forward to the update, whenever it makes it out to our devices. I appreciate the support too, and the fact that you guys are willing to put out free updates for us.

This first update is all about the save, anything beyond that has been sneaked in because I was unable to resist the distraction.

I personally really like the replay saving kinda thing, i love showing people how the whole world creation happened, i love how there's no extra space, and it's only downside to me is waiting for the whole process to be done again when i just want to continue working. I know it would be really weird and annoying to ask this now, since everyone else seems to want the proper save feature and you seem to be working hard in changing it, but.. why cant we have both?

The reason the recorded version had to go is that playback was just too slow, the most I could get, after weeks of painstaking optimisation, was about 12x speed fast wind. This would mean if someone edited a level for an hour it would take five minutes to reload.

Beyond that there is another downside to the 'playback' method is that it can't work across versions. If anything changes (build tools, creature AI etc.) then the playback will not be exactly the same so the playback would go out of sync and not end in exactly the same state as when you hit save on the previous version. It would theoretically possible to fix this by having multiple copies of the AI and landscape code but it would be a horrible mess to maintain.

Playback still works (I'll be using it for the demo) and might remain in some form but a bigger problem is confusing casual users so recording will be gone in the first update. It may came back at some point though.

Aaah.. Then I understand. That does sound like it will become a horrible mess indeed, but I hope in the future a solution might arrive and it will once again be available to users. Thank you for working hard on the game though, really appreciate what you guys have done with this game.
