We've taken the server down as well so the pirates won't be able to play it either. It's unfortunate, but we don't want people to buy a game that doesn't work.

Oh man, that is a bummer - You guys just barely got out the gate with this one. Despite some of the UI issues, I enjoyed the core game, and had high hopes for it being refined into a great game in the future.

I hate that your release had to reach it's demise so quickly.

When I fire up the app I just see the "Battle Dungeon Down" message at the log-in screen. You had to log into their servers to set up and play against the AI and real opponents - all moves were stored server-side.

Wow, that really sucks. Oh well, at least, like they said, the pirates who started this can't even play it now. Not that I really like the trend of buying a game then having to connect online even to play it offline. But at least they are offering refunds.

Here's to hoping they get it back up soon, although I'm sure it won't be before the holiday app store freeze.

I am not sure which beta test includes people stealing from you? Yes, perhaps there was a way to have device identify verification before attaching to the server, but in the end piracy has screwed over the company and the folks that paid for the product.

The server side for AI games was done in a unique way as the AI was considered a ranked player on the leaderboards, so yes it did make sense to login everytime.

They obviously did not beta test with enough people. The pirates only inflated the number of people playing to what they were not prepared for.

Games with proper sized beta tests don't have to scrap the whole release days after launch.

Besides, isn't it just al little too easy to say "gosh, the pirates did it!" Nobody will doubt you because people love one more thing to blame software piracy for.

After a pirated version of the ipa surfaced on the net, we saw around ten times the amount of people joining the game compared to the amount of sales.

If they were all legitimate sales, it would have given us the resources to work on it further, however the way it was going it just wasn't viable.

This really sucks for the dev and just goes to prove that piracy does affect everyone. You have to be some kind of real cheap ass to pirate iOS games when they are so cheap to buy in the first place.
