It feels rather ironic that Final Fantasy saved the company and now they're dishonoring it with stuff like this x.x |

When I play RPGs I'm a completionist, and since it's impossible to actually complete everything(collecting is part of it) without paying that much, it would be pretty awful. I really liked Fantasica until I realized they were going to be adding super limited cards where only the people that threw the most money during event times could get(like 5 of this card exist and only the top placers in the event get them, etc). Prior to that, every card could be obtained legitimately by trading and working your way up the ladder. And I didn't mind paying a couple bucks at that point. Then it was ruined and became like every other one of the card collection games of recent times. But that part is just my preference. I like 100%ing games that have some level of collection in them. It's like if a new 2D Castlevania came out and to get the last 1% of map completion you had to pay extra haha. But yeah. It's not the game that annoys me, but rather the fact that it feels like SE is disgracing the FF name for some extra money. And yes, people that give in are enabling it. But that goes beyond just SE into the entire App Store(which I discussed in a prior post haha). I don't mind paying proper prices for games, I think it's far better to pay $10-15 for a full, proper game than $.99 for a game that is crippled by IAP because otherwise it wouldn't be sold x.x If this same game were released for a bit more money, no timer or IAP, and everything was unlocked in game, it could have been great and I would have bought it in a heartbeat. But as-is, SE isn't getting any support at all on this one from me. Edit: I'm not really an unreasonable person, and I think your reasoning is sound. So I'm not criticizing you. I get where you're coming from. It's everyone that's justifying things with BS that bug me. It's not celebrating the history of the series for $4 if to get the iconic characters you have to pay over $30 extra y'know =p Last edited by Seil; 01-17-2013 at 07:34 PM.. |

Alright, I have to retract part of my previous post...
I have been looking for a simple, casual RPGish game that I could play for quick bursts, was set in a retro FFish universe, offered me the option to play it in portrait (I love playing portrait games so others don't know you're playing a game in meetings), and would allow me to pick up, play, and save at any moment. I thought Knights of Pen & Paper would give me that fix, but it didn't fulfill that desire. So, after much reading today, and hearing other people's experiences on another forum... I took the plunge, and got this title. I'm a sucker for a retro FF game, I admit it. But, I am actually enjoying it. Haven't needed an hourglass yet because i just do what I love, and grind away at lower level enemies until I'm strong enough to beat the next stage. ALSO, you only have to wait for characters to revive IF they ALL die in a battle. Otherwise the ones that do fall during a battle you win will all be there for the next battle without waiting. That was a big point that helped me change my mind. Also, I read that if you do buy premium content, it will be restored on your devices if you hit the restore button and then enter a battle. The person who keeps posting about losing content must not have entered a battle after hitting restore purchases. It's repetitive, but looks and sounds and plays like what I want. However, I do wish a couple things: I wish there were fewer characters on screen at once. It seems a little cluttered. And I wish that the gil you earn during battles could be used to buy the premium characters. It would give those who don't like to grind as much more incentive to play. Plus, it would make everyone feel like our wallets aren't targeted to be raped. Overall, though, it fills that place on my iDevices that needed a little retro RPG action for quick play times. I don't know if I'll get any premium content, but you really don't need to in order to enjoy the FF grind. Thanks, spot96, for helping me see the other side of this "game" and encouraging me to give it a try. Hope I can push myself to put it down and eventually finish some of those retro FF games that introduced me to these characters. Last edited by curtisrshideler; 01-17-2013 at 08:03 PM.. |

I am the scourge of the gaming community. I pay for games that I want and then buy the IAP just so the price of games steadily increases and IAP won't disappear. Flame Me! For I do it just to ruin it for people who want their game's complete for $1.
I bought it I like. It's fun, ridiculously simple but I'm not missing the money I spent. I purchased 2 of the premium characters. 1st I had Kain and that made me excited so I bought a 2nd and received Locke (6) squeal. Now I am also a fan of collectible toys. I don't know which figures in there will I like it who knows but here's my $10. The game appeals to my collecting nature. The graphics are great the music is phenomenal and when I feel like sitting down for 5 minutes its great for that. I do have questions about the items though. I pick up an Item and it shows me who it boosts for example I get a lance it increases the attack of Dragoons and Kain. Now if I have more than 1 of those units in my party will the 1 item boost all of their attack or do I need more then 1? If it goes to all of my eligible characters and I have 2 lances one with a +1 and one with a +2 to attack do all of my lance users get +3? I assume premium weapons are only available in purchased levels? That said there's 14 pages of price point and IAP bitching. So now let's talk about the game

Games shouldn't be expected to be cheaper than a candy bar. And games shouldn't be crippled or have to be crippled in order to make money. The price of games steadily increasing to above 99 cents = good. The price of games being ridiculous and not justified by content because the full price is hidden by cash grabbing IAP = bad. SE had it right when they only released games at more appropriate prices. Edit: But this is my last post on this topic here. Because it's not going to get anywhere, most people just go on the defensive instead of holding a real discussion. Edit2: Also from what I've heard, when you pick up equipment, its stats are given to all units that can use it. Last edited by Seil; 01-17-2013 at 08:16 PM.. |

You don't have to wait ever - you can just exit the battle, then they all revive.

But the game isn't crippled by the IAP. In my opinion even with out the IAP the game is entertaining and worth $3. If you however are a huge fan of the series and want to add to the experience you are more than welcome to pay a little more. Though the main draw of the game for most people is the fandom behind it.
Part of my argument I guess is that I'm an older game who has been collecting games since Intellivision when I was a kid. And the price of games contrary to popular conception have dropped significantly and that is both with and with out counting for inflation. I have more income then a college student though not wealthy so I guess I'm not as fast to gripe either but that's my opinion. Edit: Ok welcome to pay a lot more. I'll be honest :P |
