Default Ni No Kuni - Wrath of the White Witch

Why aren't more people talking about this? You guys fail.

In all seriousness, I'm hyped as heck. For those who don't know, it's a remake of a DS RPG collaboration between Studio Ghibli and Level 5, developer of games such as the Professor Layton and Dragon Quest series. It's been getting incredible praise from the gaming media and is being compared to RPG classics such as Earthbound, Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV. Kotaku also referred to it as "Dragon Quest with all the insufferable bulls**t yanked out of it", which by itself suggests a pretty fantastic game.

Aside from being freakin' beautiful, the gameplay appears to hold up too. Combat is said to be exciting and consistent throughout the whole game, with success relying more on careful planning and strategical maneuvers than item level. There's also a certain Pokemon element to the game, with over 200 "Imaginn" to catch/evolve and use in battle (three per team member, three team members (out of twelve) in battle at once). There are no notable dull points in the story as with many RPGs, and as far a depth goes, I'll paste you a paragraph from RPG Land who know far more about it than I do:

"The main story could take anywhere from 25-40 hours to complete, and doing all quests available before the final dungeon pushes the play time well over 60 hours. Even after the main game is finished, there are still 100 hidden treasure chests, seven pirate memorials, and sixteen hidden villages on the world map to discover; an Imajinn battle league to conquer; a magic spell book to complete; a casino with slots, minigames and a cutscene theater; postgame quests and bounties to hunt down; alchemy recipes to find; and Golden Imajinns to catch. Full completion of the game will require at least 100 hours from most people".

Have I convinced anyone yet? A few of you must be playing already, so let's get some impressions in.

Just PS3, or Nintendo DS for the original. Hence posting it in the Lounge. I think it'd be a pretty big task trying to bring it to iOS so don't hold your breath

Actually its a retranslation/remake of ni no kuni the white witch from the 2011 japanese version. the ds release was ni no kuni: the jet black mage release 2010. apparently the ds magic book will be included in the collectors edition...but havent heard anything about this.

Level 5 is apparently developing the ds version from the ground up?

I'm pretty sure most gamers don't count translations as remakes, they just take a bit of time to get over here from Japan. The CE comes with a beautiful 300- page hardcover Wizard's Companion, covers all of the creatures you'll encounter, etc. Unfortunately, it's sold out almost the entire world over.

You can still get the japanese book on ebay for around 15-30 us dollars. the wizards edition is not worth spending 250-400 dollars on ebay. cant believe they alow this up priceing ,when it was pre-order for 100 dollars. It should be against the law to inflate priceing over a certain percentage.

plus i would wait till they release a all-in-one edition like the japanese with all the dlc(fingers crossed) maybe they will fix all the bugs and save glitches in the us version

I preordered the Wizard Edition back in August/September when Namco Bandai was doing that Ninostarter campaign thing, and it came in the mail today. I haven't opened it yet, but I don't plan on selling it either. The packaging just looks so neat. :o

...I'll probably have to buy another copy to play at some point.

The US version includes the easy mode and most of the content in the Japanese All-in-One Edition iirc.

I really want this game. Depending on trade-in values at Best Buy next week, I may be trading in a game or two and picking it up. I wish I'd gotten in on the US Wizards edition (better than the EU Wizards edition). Oh well.
