To me, that's a good use of the update system. It just bugs me when there's missing features that are introduced later on, that are amongst the core aspects of the game. UI tweaks, localizations, bug fixes, performance enhancements, control changes etc aren't part of the core gameplay.
Of course it is nice when a game like TanZen (which already had a fair amount of puzzles in it's first version) adds more puzzles, because it is a natural evolution of the game. It is more of a bonus than anything else.
I also agree with arn that it is a wasted opportunity for the developers of Fieldrunners to highly polish and balance their game, fine tune it even, and then completely mute it. They could have pushed the release date to this November/December and have a good audio component.
