We all just got back from the Develop conference in Brighton where our Great BIG War Game was a nominated finalist in the Indie Showcase.

There was an award available but we was robbed! :)

This was a very useful event to attend as an Indie and I'd recommend others go to it if in any doubt. It was great to see crowds of people flocking to try the game, and we made some very useful contacts.

Can't remember if it was qube or loom now. Both worthy, along with ours of course. :)

It's quite funny actually, talking to the other finalists it rapidly became apparent that none of them were using Unity in their games. They just sponsored the event, for which we were grateful else it may not have happened. Given how many people do seem to use it, the irony wasn't lost on us! :)

There was another award - "the peoples choice". In theory that should be the most valued and given our stand had the most people round it we thought we might scoop it for a while. But in practice it went to the bastards who'd obviously found where the forms were stashed - the ballot box was on the end of our stand and we saw them putting a new york yellow pages worth in. But I'm sure they weren't all marked for themselves...

EDIT: Got some pics up on our facebook page.

well they should have given away some free licenses during the conference to get devs to try out unity.

but unity itself is not as big as some may believe when they see games like shadowgun from madfinger..

    Thanks for that. :)

And yes we've tried to get our ducks in a line this time around. We were a bit newbie wrt how to launch a game the first time. I guess time will tell if this goes better. Fingers crossed! :)

I headed there on the thursday and just sat in the hotel bar talking and meeting people. It was a really good way to start getting more involved in the industry as well as being able to bounce ideas off people

We went to Develop this year, was a great event. Absolutely invaluable as an Indie, and the Indie ticket isn't priced too steep compared to the full price.

But the best thing is to go to the parties that happen in the evenings. The people that you meet and make friends with at these events, are really worth so much more than a lot of the sessions. It's a lot of fun too but absolutely worth the cost.

    Yep, absolutely.

Shame this time we were so fagged out after presenting all day, we just had a quick couple of pints over dinner then went to bed early. Rock and roll, lol.

Think I lost £20 in the end but it was a good laugh though!
