Thanks a lot for your feedback! Well, actually, it's only one wheel. The left one is a normal D-pad, like in all other games; It just looks like a wheel. Only the right one rotates because it controls the rotation. Actually, at first, I even doubted the whole concept because I couldn't come up with an intuitive control system for rotating the islands. You need to rotate while moving, so two fingers wasn't suitable. Buttons didn't fit, cause you need slow and fast rotation. But then I recalled the "scroll wheel" of the old iPods - perfectly intuitive, extremely precise (this is needed here) and also a great hommage to classic Apple interface design! And it's a lot of fun using this on the touch screen... Actually, finding this control scheme was the initial motivation for me to go on with this project. By the way, for a later desktop version, I've put the rotation on the mouse wheel, which is also very nice to use...
Hi again! I've been a bit worried about the control elements getting misunderstood as two wheels (whereas only the right one is actually an iPod-style "scroll wheel" while the left one is just a normal D-pad). So now I've redesigned the D-pad to make its function more obvious:
Loved Blood Roofs, and can't wait to get my hands on this. Everything looks fantastic; take my money, please!
Thanks EP, yes, I tried to make the controls as intuitive and smooth as possible. Especially as this was a fairly new kind of gameplay (at least I haven't seen anything similar anywhere else before). So I was pretty much all on my own trying to find the best control system. But it's also great to get feedback regarding the design - I'm glad I changed the wheel look to the D-pad arrows... I wouldn't have noticed this any more, since I've been watching these controls every day for nearly a whole year now...
I'm starting to get ready for iOS 7... First thing was removing the glossy frame from the app icon, and now I adapted the Game Center icon. Of course these changes will only occur when running on iOS 7:
Release Date OK, now finally here's the release date: Shadow Vamp will hit the App Store on Sunday, September 22nd 2013. Cheers Thomas
WOAH! Cant wait for this! If I remember right, Blood Roofs was a fantastic weekend surprise release too... wasnt it?
I really like the level of washout/dirty look of the Game Center icon on the iOS6-, maybe the iOS7 can also get the same amount of dirt on it. I know im just nitpicking here, but i think right now the GC icon for iOS7 looks too bright, kinda breaks away from the entire composition's mood.
Really cool idea, unique mechanic and I like the world you have created for the game. I will definitely be checking this out!
Yes, you could be right here... I was just a bit anxious to tamper too much with the new ultra-clean look of the iOS7 icon. The old icon had more dirt indeed. Maybe I should change this with a future update.
Yep! Thanks for posting! By the way, you should be able to change the "/us/" to almost any country code, as it's localized in 12 languages... Thanks a lot! Hope you like it. Cheers Thomas
