You can try resetting your iPod. Press and hold both the menu and select (center) buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, this may take longer than 10 seconds to be patient. This will not erase anything on your iPod, it just reboots it (just like rebooting a computer). If that works, then you should hook your iPod up to your computer and try restoring it with iTunes. Restoring your iPod will ensure that it has the most recent firmware and it will erase everything on your iPod. Resetting and restoring an iPod fixes about 75% of iPod problems.
