So I haven't touched iOS gaming for about the last year. Lately I've been itching for an RPG or two to have on my device for those times where I want to play a game on the go and I just have my iPhone with me.

So i ask you, what are some of the best/must have RPG's that have released over the past year that I should look at? I have an iPhone 4S in case specs are an issue.

    Here's my list:
    Bastion
    Ravensword 2
    Final fantasy 3,4,5 ( wouldn't recommend 5)
Horn ( best looking game everrr)
The bard's tale ( lots of humor and fun)
    Infinity blade series
    Knights of Pen& Paper
Wild blood( boring plot but great gameplay)
    Chaos rings series( best JRPG)

    Most anticipated upcoming IOS games:
    Oceanhorn ( zelda-like)
Exile: Far Colony( from the dev of Ravensword and Aralon)
    Micromon ( pokemon!)
    Infinity blade: Dungeon

    and more.....

    Consider also...

    Kingturn (SRPG)
Dungeon Plunder (roguelike, slot based individual combat)
QuestLord (first person turn based dungeon crawler)
    Partia: The Broken Lineage (SRPG)
Nameless: The Hackers (sort of jrpg)
Dark Quest (board game / roguelike)
    Dungelot ("casual" roguelike)
    Star Trader RPG (space sim)
    bitDungeon (action roguelike)
TowelFight 2: The Monocile of Destiny (silly action roguelike)

I'll be curious to see what you decide on and how you find it. Zzandreazz's recommendations are good too.

There are a lot of really great games listed, I can't say that these are necessarily the best, but ones I enjoyed/am enjoying:

Battleheart (cartoonish, real-time strategy.. kind of? hard to explain, but awesome)
Mighty Dungeons (promising new release, still a little rough but there's already an update being pushed)
    Battleloot (silly SRPG)
Orc: Vengeance (dungeon crawler, you play an orc)
Heroes Call (another dungeon crawler, freemium done right)

I haven't played Horn, Lili, Pixel Defenders Puzzle but have heard good things about all three. I hope you find something you enjoy, lots of treasures mentioned here. :)

ETA: Looking back, I think some of these may have been released more than a year ago - still worth checking out, though.

    Are you on drugs? o_O

It's $16 to unlock all chapters in Drakerider, and $6 for the Deluxe version of SMRPG which gives you all current and future chapters of the game.

Go get all the games from Spiderweb Software:
Avadon, and the Avernums. Average on graphics, but fantastic gameplay and story.

I second the Chaos Rings games, Baldur's Gate, Bastion, Ravensword 2, and especially Kingturn.
You might like Blazing Souls:Accelate, but that game is a tough cookie, insanely long, and not much fun without a walkthrough.
The Infinity Blades are more like action games, not RPGs.
Drakerider was so-so: nice, but nothing special.
Horn was rather nice, especially the environments have some real jawdroppers.

If you want a "slightly different" experience go check out Crow (not a real RPG, but very interesting setting and story), and King of Dragon Pass (the 5star luxury package, complete with whirlpool, music, and butler): extremely text-heavy, but an awe-inspiring experience, and tells one of the best stories I ever saw.

Um, the OP has an iphone 4S, so Baldur's Gate, Spiderweb games, etc. aren't applicable. I don't even know about Bastion - I adore it and it is universal, but does it work well on a small screen?
I really like Bard's Tale, and it is less frantic than Bastion, so it may work on an iphone.

Personally, I was somewhat disappointed in The World Ends with You - I finished it, but I didn't love it. Loved Final Fantasy III, though.

I am currently addicted to Kingturn and the prologue is free, so I'd say try that. But what kind of RPGs do you enjoy, OP?

Think Bastion works very well on a smaller screen, granted its far better on the ipad but i travel a lot so i prefer playing games on my iphone/ipod

I highly recommend Bastion as well. I was originally going to wait to get a new iPad to play it but had read such rave reviews I couldn't resist, buying it on my iPhone instead (it is universal though). Simply put, AMAZING game. Two minutes into the game I knew I was in for something special, and I was right. One of my favorite games ever, I've since bought it on X-Box and it will definitely get another play through when I get my iPad 5 (intimately, with headphones).

Edit: it played wonderfully on an iPhone.

+1 for the Bastion recommendation, but that isnt much of an RPG by definition, but more of an action adventure title.

Here's a few more good RPGs i can remember for the past year.

Symphony of Origin (all Kemco/Kotobuki Solutions RPGs are quite good)
    Dungelot
    Monster Adventures
    Costume Quest
    Spiral Ep1
    SOL Stone of Life
    Heroes & Castles
    Quadropus Rampage
    SW:KOTOR
    Shadowrun Returns
    Infinity Blade 3
    Bloodmasque
    Rage of the Gladiator
    Drakerider
Chaos Rings 2 (was this this year or the last?)
    Ravensword Shadowlands
    Dungeon Plunder
    Horn (last year?)
    Iesabel
    ORC Vengeance
