Kind of shocked I couldn't find a thread like this, given Halloween is upon us and all, but better late than never, I guess.

What's a good iOS game for scares and all that palm sweating tension for those who like to get their scream on? I have to admit I never thought I'd play a scary game on my iPhone or iPad, but after hearing mumbles and grumbles about Slenderman games on the App Store, Year Walk, etc, I figured it was time to test the waters.

So lay it on me. Name a scary game and explain the angle of horror it comes from (i.e., jump scares, high tension, slasher, or whatever else).

Try Indigo Lake. I haven't played it yet though, but it supposed to be scary.

Edit: try Home - A Unique Horror Adventure and The Last Door Episode One as well. (retro-style graphics)
The 7th Guest is a classic, but it contains a lot of puzzles though.

    +1 for Indigo Lake.

Other atmospheric horror themed games i can think of:

    The Woods
    Into the Dead
    The Walking Dead
    Prisoner 84
    NY Zombies 2
    Year Walk
    Limbo
    Dead Space
    Dead Effect
    The Room
    Maze of Darkness

EDIT: Oh yeah... forgot about Papa Sangre.

    The Garden of Sinners
Dead Space mobile. It's pretty nasty.

What's Home like? I've seen it on Steam for a while and now that it's on iOS, I'm feeling compelled.

Indigo Lake looks pretty rad, but I feel like the guns would take away from the tension. I like horror games that make combat mechanics feel like desperate attempts for survival rather than loading you up with guns and ammo. Have you heard anything about how it straddles that line?

How's The Woods? I saw it on the App Store and felt interested, but a lot of the user reviews made it sound like the appearance of the spirits is more tedious than tense because they spawn so often.

This might be a winner. Dead Space on consoles always made me feel tense as fuuuuuck. Not to mention the flinch worthy deaths.

You also forgot to mention "The Nightjar"

    To the OP:

If you decide to get papa sangre or the nightjar I think you should know that they are audio games. There's nothi g wrong with that all. I just wanna make sure you know in case you decide to get them.

    Also,

Eyes- The Horror Game (not audio game)

So how does these audio based games work? Are there any visuals at all? How does level navigation or enemy confrontation play out?

Yeah I'm interested in Papa Sangre but since my native tongue isn't English I'm not sure it'd work for me.

You should be fine. I have a hunch that Papa Sangre (and/or Nightjar) will go on sale to celebrate the release of Papa Sangre 2; you may wanted to wait and give it a go when the price drops........maybe I am wrong though. If you wanted to purchase it, just wait a few days (you may save yourself some money if you end up not enjoying it).

Try out Blindscape. It's an audio game that is free. You'll need headphones.

    It's kinda tough to explain.

Blindcape isn't a horror game, but it should give you a good idea what audio games like.

I'm going back to listing normal games now.

The Occupant is a creepy game too.

    Dead Space.

    Limited ammo
    Tempting jumpscares
Anxiousness and nervousness will attack you there.

    Probably best horror game ever.

Right now, on iOS, Indigo Lake can give Dead Space a run for its money in terms of being a great horror game. Difference is that they are of a different gameplay genre, as one is an adventure game, and the other is a shooter.

Wait, you don't own Dead Space for iOS yet? Uhm, yeah, one vote for DS from this guy... ;):D

DS on iOS is probably my top reason for being excited about the new Mini in my not-too-distant future...

You're gonna be disappointed. :( DS on iPad isn't retina.

    Which reminds me!

I have an iPad retina as well that I'm looking to use when I sink my teeth into these games. Can I count in most of the games listed so far (Dead Space aside) to fulfill my expectations of looking sweet as hell (read: not pixelated or stretched out) on that retina screen?
