What are the best single player first person shooters?

I've only played Eliminate and the demo of Sandstorm so far. Eliminate is ok but the levels are kind of boring and I'd like a campaign to do instead of just deathmatch (Not the games fault, it does what it does well). Sandstorm has been fun so far and I see that they have two difficulty levels past normal, which is what I'm playing on. I LOVE when a FPS is challenging and not just a spray and pray fest.

what FPS games would you recommend for single player?

There's not many quality FPS games on the App store yet, Nova was pretty good, also has multiplayer, not a very great storyline though.

Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies.

Set it to dual sticks, get the sensitivity right, and it runs on 45+ FPS on my 2nd gen iTouch and 60+ on my 3GS.

And, yes, it's challenging. It's the same at Nazi Zombies, so you know what to expect.... I hope.

    It's amazing.

Nova's kind of a spray/pray fest, so that might not be what your looking for. Unfortunately, the only other single player fps that i've played was a demo for some resident evil game, and now that I think about it, was actually more 3rd person, so I dunno nevermind.

You should try DOOM Classic along with NOVA and COD Zombies. I think these 3 are my favorite.
edit- and DOOM Resurrection too! It's awesome, don't listen to haters that complain it's on-rails.

Might as well mention that it's only got one map, and the controllers are balls however you configure them, but other than that It's a pretty good game with fun gameplay (That is if you can manage to play with the bad controllers) and good graphics.

I would say that N.O.V.A is the best first person shooter on the App Store so far, in my opinion.

But they don't want spray/pray, and if you adjust sensitivity they work just like on 360.

fwiw, imo Bioshock gets old quickly, even though it has some elements that I have not yet seen before. Atm, I am making sweet gaming love to Portal and COD4, where imo COD4 is amazing in the amount of graphics detailing et al and rules the roost currently in the realm of SP.

And Debaser, that's awesome. Makes me want to get it, mate!

I honestly don't understand why people rip on COD Zombies controls... and Eliminates controls also for that matter, but people always praise controls of NOVA and MC:S. To me they're basically all the same.

    NOVA and Modern Combat
if you like scientific theme, choose NOVA
If you like somethings like COD4, choose Modern Combat
Both provide good FPS control and feeling!

    NOVA has voice for character.
Modern Combat is more challenging in gameplay.

I waited until after playing well over a hundred online matches before starting the single player campaign. Except for the sniping and lack of melee, Nova feels very similar to playing Halo.

It's sad that the very best single player FPS still barely stretches beyond 3 hours.
