Sega announced today that they'll be bringing Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing to the iPhone. The playable characters will include Sonic (of course), plus cohorts like Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Dr. Eggman, along with Sega characters like AiAi from Super Monkey Ball, Amigo from Samba de Amigo, Ryo Hazuki from Shenmue, B. D. Joe from Crazy Taxi, and possibly some iPhone-only characters. Each character will have his or her own vehicle. No release date or price has been announced yet. This game was awesome on consoles, one of my fav. Kart racers, hopefully this will be as good. iOS doesn't really have a kart racer comparable to Mario Kart.
I've never played before, so sorry if my question sounds dumb. Is this game sort of Mario Kart-esque, with items and stuff? I'm guessing so from the rocket in the screenshot, but I just thought I'd ask. Edit: Never mind, the STP preview mentions that it has powerups, so I guess the answer is "yes".

I'm confused where you're getting the information that this game is being released next week. That article only gives a broad range of this summer as a release date.
Hopefully this means it's close to release. Been a while since a good Mario kart-like racer. I wonder if it's universal or there is a seperate app for iPad.
