This thread is for fellow TouchArcade members to discuss puzzle games. What exactly is a puzzle game? In my opinion, a puzzle game is a game which requires logic and thinking (but not strategy) to play. Puzzle games typically require the player to manipulate a set of objects. They contain multiple levels and each level has a winning solution which is determined by a set of rules. No match-3 games please, unless the puzzle factor is overwhelming. My Personal Recommendations and Favorites My Personal Recommendations and Favorites These are puzzle games which I personally recommend. In my opinion, these are absolute must-haves. PathPix [Lite] | PathPix Pro by Kris Pixton PathPix is an amazing logic game where you have to draw paths between different colored numbers. Each path must connect 2 different numbers of the same color, and the length of the path must be equal to the numbers of the endpoints. If a puzzle is complete, the paths will occupy the entire grid. Upon completing a puzzle, the game displays a quote related to the picture that you just made with the paths. PathPix Pro is the sequel to PathPix. It includes alternate puzzle modes such as "White Space" and "Two Colors". PathPix contains over 150 puzzles, and PathPix Pro contains 300 puzzles. TanZen [Lite] by Little White Bear Studios TanZen is, bar none, the best Tangram game for the iPhone and iPod Touch platform. The rules of Tangram are simple - manipulate different tiles so that they form a shape. Intuitive controls and great graphics make TanZen a puzzle game gem that shouldn't be missed by anyone. TanZen currently contains over 380 puzzles, and that number is constantly growing through frequent updates. Zentomino [Lite] | Pentanimals [Lite] by Little White Bear Studios Zentomino (and it's sibling, Pentanimals) are, simply put, Pentomino perfection. Both games are relatively the same, but Pentanimals replaces the Zen theme of Zentomino with a cute animal theme that appeals to children. Pentanimals also provides more hints than are allowed in Zentomino. Zentomino currently contains over 200 puzzles and Pentanimals currently contains over 70 puzzles. Puzzles are constantly added in frequent updates by the developer, Little White Bear Studios. Subway Shuffle [Lite] by Aubrey's Puzzles Subway Shuffle is a very polished puzzle game. The goal of the same is to bring the main red subway train to it's station. There are other trains on the network of tracks that will block your way. Each train can only move on a track of it's color. Subway Shuffle currently contains 100 levels. Fling! by CandyCane Fling! is a cute puzzle game in which you have to bump furballs into each other to leave only 1 remaining. Furballs can only roll straight (vertically and horizontally) and you cannot roll them straight off the screen. Also, you cannot roll adjacent furballs into each other. There are over 10,000 unique puzzles guaranteeing you will never run into the same puzzle twice. Arctopia: A Puzzle Game [Lite] by Alexander Williams In Arctopia, you play a penguin trying to extinguish every flame on the level using ice and iron blocks. You can only move left and right (but you can hop up steps that are 1 level above you) and use the snowflake button. The snowflake button will affect the square 1 tile down and 1 tile away from you (depending which way you're facing). If there is ice in that square, the ice disappears. If there is nothing in that square, a block of ice forms. Ice will stick together, and you can only push single-block ice cubes. All in all, Arctopia is a great arcade-styled puzzle game that you should pick up.

These are indeed puzzle games as defined. I don't believe most people consider Myst a puzzle game. Myst is a highly intensive graphic adventure game with puzzle elements. Same with the others you listed as well as both Simon the Sorcerers and others. Just because a game has puzzle parts IN it does not classify it as a puzzle game as its FIRST classification. This has been a very long standing thread which is all encompassing for a specific type of puzzler. Mew's definition was simply NOT to include all the match 3 bejeweled clones, tetris clones etc. It IS a puzzle thread! I think you misunderstood the moving people part. While games like Myst and Simon the Sorcerer command you to guide a person around, Mew's puzzle games must have levels and some of those puzzles such as Toki Tori, Sheeple, and others manipulate people, animals, etc, to get to a goal.
